@Correlli: I never wrote anything about UW gear on this thread, but to say the least that has been a big thing with me. The Nikonos V I have used UW a lot but it didn't have what I wanted, but I have seen it retrofitted by some guys to be better than as I used the camera. I myself have used both UW cameras and land cameras with housings.

I do prefer housings by many times. Sometimes the bulk of housing can be an asset. The disadvantage of all UW photo gear is the cost and needing to get it dialed in for EVERY UW shoot. There are a lot of D90s being used UW with housings. My most used lens are 12-24DX and the 60 Nikkor Micro. The new 40 Macro Nikkor I have never even seen but it should be a perfect UW macro lens. The housing ports though are quite an added bother. I actually do mostly video wok UW, there again with housings.....except for one video camera that is UW capable.

In order of purchase that I still currently have:

    Canon AE1 (1977)
    Nikon N6006
    Nikon CoolPix 2500 (currently DOA)
    Nikon D70s
    Nikon D700
    Olympus Stylus Tough (gift)
    Flip UltraHD (gift)
    Nikon D7000
    iPad2
    iPhone4

Each one has a special place and given the right circumstances each can be the best. Overall, The D700 still rocks, but snorkling in Hawaii the last two weeks the Tough won out, skiing and wanting short video, the Flip is the way to go. For always with me it's the iPhone. I love them all and had everything from the D700 down with me on the trip.

I'm keeping the D70s and at some point will run it up to Life Pixel and have it converted for IR photography.

    Hi all,

If I go back far enough, it would be a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, followed by a Argus C3 then a C44.

I had a Yashica D Rolli twin lens that was terrific, too, that I picked up for $12 new in a PX in Vietnam - I used it until the repair bill was $200.

A Mamiya RB67 and the list of Nikons from F, F2, F3, F4, EN, FE2, 6006, a 35Ti, D50, D90, and D7000, and a hand full of consumer cameras (a Pentax weather proof and a Canon point and shoot are stand outs).

The D90 and D7000 share my favorite status, but the FE2 was my favorite camera to use, followed by Rollie twin lens (owned the newspapers where I worked) (or the Yashica D - a workalike).

    My best,

    Mike

Cameras owned right now? About a dozon or so, including a D300, a few Minolta x-570s, a zeiss-ikon, a yashica, three canons, two sonys ...

My favorite of the ones I still own would be my D300. My favorite of all I've owned would be an SRT-101 due to all the adventures and mishaps that it shared with me. The only reason I don't still have it was that it was stolen in 1983.

Wow - own current/past too many.

My favorite (I may get yelled at here) is still my Oly IS-50 (film 28-120mm lens). I loved this body line and the images were always good with focus spot on. I could just take it and shoot and it served me well for 7 years through europe backpacking and other sites & locals that it should have not survived but did and still does.

Really right now I have used my Fuji X100 all the time when I'm out and about as well as a FE2 or Bessa R2 with Tri-X loaded. The Fuji is just nuts when it comes to IQ and use. Nothing beats my D300 for workhorse stuff though out of what I have or had owned.

I am sure that housings are more versatile, but until I got the D700 less than a year ago I used a FM2 and FM3A and I still only got manual lenses. Also I don't earn money from my photos so the cost of a housing is hard to justify, especially as I did not go diving in a long time (sigh).

I got the Nikonos from a company that did not need it anymore. I was almost new and they sold it because people did not know how to use it (they did not put the film under the flap so no images taken...). When I spend an exchange semester in Melbourne I got an SB103 for 50% from a photo store and when I returned back home I found that I can exchange it for a brand new SB105. So I never ever had to regret getting the Nikonos... :)

I am always grateful that a D90 can do so much in a small package. Hurricane Irene images I did with still and video were quite good and we were in places the TV Channel crews were not. The UW housing and a D90 is although very good I still eagerly await a D400 although in some ways maybe for hardcore field work I should just get a D7000.

The new CoolPix AW100 should be a nice P&S for underwater and other rough work and recreational use. Problem is image quality is still very important to all on Nikon Rumors.

Sounds like Correlli got a great deal on his Nikonos V. Australia is a great place to dive. The Great Barrier Reef alone is awesome. I will be lucky to ever afford to do that anymore......

I have used several Nikon models since the first model D40x in late 2007, then D90 in 2009. Now I am going to purchase D700. With me, D700 is the best one.

I can't imagine owning a lens I would only use twice a year. Seems like such a waste. You should just sell it.

well if we go way back, I had a "disc" camera, way back when some Pentax and Nikon 35 MM.

    Digital:

    Canon Powershot,
    Nikon D2H
    Nikon D300

The favorite is the d300, but im looking forward to trying out d700 or d800 if it comes out.

Most of my money is in glass, but I think im going to upgrade soon.

I would have said D700,but problem of lines at different iso's specially @1600 and up when shooting street shots during night is something I hate about it .So its has to be Nikon D90.

    Why?

    1.Shot Commonwealth Games 2010-Delhi with it .
2.Kerela -Where it fell .Lens broke ,but camera still managed to work throughout the journey[ I had get the viewfinder and outer casing fixed because they were broken.]
3 Thar Desert :it was with me ,when I went all the way to Indo Pak border.

    and many other moments.

this is the only reason I don't feel like selling it off .
