Back from my honeymoon traversal, i was looking for a most useful and powerful picture encryption software which can encrypt my pictures. i have tried several picture encryption software, however, they all have to compress or decompress the pictures. is there a picture encryption software which can see the encrypted pictures freely without uncompressing?
how to protect my private pictures

Is your interest for protecting images that are only on your PC or on the Web also?

Send them to me meiling277869 I'll make sure they stay safe ;^)
Seriously though the 100% safest way is to NOT save them on your computer to begin with. Even after an encryption, small thumbnails still linger around on your hard drive and can be recovered by someone who knows what to look for. The actual high resolution photos might be safe but encryption won't secure the thumbnails your computer uses when for example you view them in their folders or with Nikon ViewNX or CaptureNX.
There is software that encrypts to DVD but I've found moving encrypted DVD's between computers to be a hassle as they won't always read properly. So it's not a good long term solution for archiving.
FORGET ABOUT online storage. That's not a good idea if these are very private pictures that you wouldn't want anyone, especially your wife maybe, to see. Bachelor party photos perhaps? ;^)Welcome to the forum meiling277869

If you simply want to hide pictures on a Windows PC then use Folder Guard (approx $29) it will allow you password protect folders and individual files, for a cheaper cruder option you could use WinZip.

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're looking for, mainly because I don't grok the line about the software you've tried "compressing and decompressing" the photos.
IF you're talking about WinZip (or some other archiver with an encryption option) rest assured that there is no lossy compression happening, and that for sake of argument you can think of the archive as not a compressed file, but rather the original jpg inside a container.
I THINK what you want is an image viewer which will open the files just as if they were any other image, but will ask you for a password before doing so. I know of no such program, I'm sure one exists, but you will be locking your files into a non-standard format if you do. I think encrypted .zip is superior for that reason.
The best option, IMHO, is to use TruCrypt to create an encrypted file which you mount like a HDD with a password. This will provide seamless enjoyment of you images with any program only when you decrypt and mount the volume, and can hide completely transparently in plain sight whenever you aren't around.

You could always just hide them in plain sight. If you've got 10k pictures worth of crap photos like I do, the probability that anyone will look through them all to find something interesting starts to get pretty low :)

Put a bunch of goatse-type photos in a directory named "Honeymoon - PRIVATE", and you're scare off any would-be peepers.

There is a software utility that will make them 100% secure, it is called wipe-disk. The only minor drawback is that they will then exist only in your memory ... but you can't beat the privacy.
More practical way to do it, if you use Windows and want to protect them only on your PC, is to use built in Encrypting File System, then only you (and people that know your user name and password) will be able to open them.
The other way to do it, if you want to send them by e-mail and do not want them compressed, is to use some file encryption software. The most useful one probably is some ZIP archiver with encryption option, you could store the image files without compression and, because most unzip utilities can handle encrypted and password protected files, other people will be able to open them if you find some way to send them the password securely enough.
I do not understand the need for encrypted files on your web page, if you do not want people to see them do not put them on the web page.Posted 3 years ago # -
Let's just clarify - if you compress them with ZIP it won't do any harm.
Won't do any good either, but there is no reason to fear archive programs.

If you try to compress JPEG with ZIP it will make the files actually a bit larger, not much harm though...

I find this image encryption program-Xlinksoft image encryptionsoftware-is very useful for keeping private photos private.the user interface is one of the easiest I have used. it is so easy to use I was able to get going within a minute of opening the program I did not need a single instruction another plus. This product is great I would recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their photos private.

encrypt all the image formats such as BMP, JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG and ICO. voew the encrypted images directly without uncomressing.

thanks for your sugggestion~~~ i have tried ZIP, but the picture quality is no as good as original images. i cannot defcrypt the images when i lost password when use the trucrypt encryption. after comparing, i decide to prefer Xlinksoft image encryption. the images quality will not be changed, and i can encrypt amount images within one seconds. what's more, i can encrypt/decrypt images in one key!

ZIP is lossless - it must be as good as the original.

ZIP will certainly not change a single bit from any file picture or not does not matter.
What exactly is the point of encryption software if you can decrypt it without a password; if you are using key based encryption you will loose all your data if you loose the key, if yours hard drive crashes for example.
ZIP has an advantage that everyone has it so it is easier to share your photos, but you are welcome to use whatever you find convenient.
What exactly is so secretive about your honeymoon pictures I wonder, have you been that naughty?Posted 3 years ago # -
the interface is so hard to use. but Xlinksoft image encryption is more easier!
and no one can decrypt the encrypted images without password, of course!
but Xlinksoft has the field of "Prompt Question" to remind you of your password. this function can remind me of password if i forgot the password.Posted 3 years ago # -
What I would really like is an extension to JPEG that will allow you to transparently encrypt images with or without thumbnail preview and some kind of public key infrastructure that will allow you to share your pictures securely over the net. Would not be too hard to implement, more of a problem would be to standardize it.
