Just found this advert for a silicon cover for J1 at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271024698932

Title: Camera silicon cover for Nikon 1 J1 & J2 + Tow LCD Screen Protectors…

And in the description if you scroll down.

Some hope for a V2 as well may be ? :)

They have a ton of protectors for the J1 and none say "J2" - my guess it is a typo.

Unless they know something we don't and they let a cat out of the bag too early ?…

I could do with a V2 right now, providing it corrects the V1 problems of course :)

My point was 1 listing among 100s doesn't mean anything. Those types of conspiracies, although fun to think about, do not exist.

Outside of that (I do not think it is remotely connected) the j1/v1 was released at the end of September so maybe Nikon will do a yearly refresh, but considering it is still holding up against the m4/3s released this year, they may wait.

A slip if it ever happens will be just that - 1 among 100s. Having said that though it really is unclear from just this listing if a J2 or a V2 (seller also has listing for V2) will be coming anytime soon. One possibility is that the seller is anticipating a possible new release so they're adding J2 and V2 now instead of later on or just to create hype around their products.

Had this been from a bigger dealer then it would have had more weight but coming form a small time eBay seller... well, I'd just take it with a big grain of salt.

Mmm… I think you're both right. Let's go back to picture taking and wait for Photokina :)

Hey don't get me wrong. I didn't mean to dismiss the possibility of a V2/J2 coming out anytime soon. I'm just saying more data is needed than just an eBay listing.

Who knows though? Maybe you're on to something. After all, Nikon is expected to update the Nikon 1 line later this year.

Who knows...maybe Nikon will come up with an APS-C sensor V1...or something like this... It would make perfect sense to me, as technology develops the auto focus process for continuous servo with mirror less cameras to work as well as the DSLR, that the DSLR will eventually be a thing of the past. And, Nikon and Canon both are working on this I am certain.

An interesting factor, seen in the early 1990's when Nissan came out with the 300ZX Twin Turbo, is that one does not want to make a leap forward so far the advances are to much to be marketable. This was the problem with the 300ZX...not as successful as they had hoped yet way ahead in some technical aspects.

So, a jump to a non DSLR which would perform like a D4 for instance, may be a failure and create a very real marketing crisis for any of the big manufacturers. For Sony and Fuji, less of a risk, and this may be why the NEX 7 and X-Pro1 are in existence.

And, when I get to post number 1500, I wonder if I can celebrate and put one and one half photos on PAD...?

I would really love to see a fully working hot shoe on J2, this would made a deal breaker for me.

    @msmoto - You may :)

Totally off topic, but it didn't help that the cost skyrocketed for the 300zx and the Toyota Supra. I think that was the failure...they were almost $50,000 by the time they stopped production. When they reintroduced the 350z it was around $25,000 for the base model which was half the cost and 10 years later.

I think price might be the biggest factor in the equation. Would you pay $1500 for a mirrorless camera that performed like a D7000 which can be purchased for under $1000 now?

No kidding - from the initial release videos, it didn't seem like this was going to be a system updated every year.

Let's not go down that road again! ;) The more I read user experiences with the j1/v1 it seems Nikon placed it in a good spot. People really seem to enjoy it. A great Performing camera that takes really good pictures. The trade off they choose was the sensor size. Others have chosen performance. For me when the performance frustrates me, it is momentary referred to as "That piece of junk" ;)

When it comes down to it, I really don't want to fill my hard drive with huge files of photos of my dog or the family stuff I am just "recording" where the memory of that moment is more then the IQ. If you miss the moment due to performance, that is really bad in my book.

Actually, I think a $1500 mirror less would perform better than the D7000. But it is a mute point as Nikon has nothing in this format.
I like to dream, and I suppose what I want is a Sony Alpha NEX 7, but a Nikon version. I just think the larger format will provide a nicer image. And at the same time, my little Olympus 1030SW has done some really great work, and has a very small sensor. Yet, when I try to get a quick photo, I am trying to use the knowledge I have, make adjustments to the camera, and find myself lost in the menus...

So, I want a P & S which can be manually set, easily.

The ONLY non SLR I could see myself currently buying is the X-Pro1. It's not that I think Sony and the other players are producing poor cameras, just Fuji really seem to have their finger on the pulse at the moment.

I suppose we will see what the revised Nikon "V2" looks like. And, the Fuji does look better so far when one compares some basics. The weight, size, and final product on some of the preliminary tests suggest this is an excellent camera. The one pound of the Fuji is about right as the lens will be adding nearly that to it.

But, we will see what Nikon offers in the next couple months.
