    Hello there,

My pop-up flash on Nikon D5000 used to work well in manual & aperture mode meaning - the shutter speed would increase automatically when flash was popped out.

Recently, I put an external flash - Achiever 828 & started clicking & before putting it on, I had checked if the flash was supported (trigger voltage) & on one of the forums it said, it would.

I put the external flash & took some pictures. Now, when I pop-out the camera flash (not using the external flash), it doesn't increase the shutter speed at all! I probably feel it is due to the external flash & could have damaged the circuitry.

Appreciate if someone could help me on this. I m planning to take it to a service shop soon enough but before then any help is very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Anil

Did you check your flash mode? Looks through your settings in your menus and make sure it didn't switch to manual or something when you put the other flash on. Before you send it in I might try a factor default reset.

I did! I checked the menus & reverted back the settings to TTL. I also tried factory default reset but still it didn't work.
Strage thing is - the flash automatically increases shutter speed when I pop it out in any of the auto modes, the problem is only in manual modes.

It really sounds like a setting then and not a problem with the circuitry or something.

Was that the 2 button reset you used to reset the camera?

In the menu there should be a manual or iTTL setting. Not to be confused with the flash mode settings like curtain flash and those. It is somewhere else in the menus. I don't have my camera with me or I would look for it.

Edit: Looking at the manual try Menu, the pencil (custom settings) and then in e1 and make sure it is set to TTL and not manual. There might be something with metering also that could change this. Look through the manual at all the flash stuff if none of this works. Like I said if it is working in the auto modes then it sounds like a setting and not a real problem.

Thanks! Let me check it again, this time as you said. I will let you know what I find.

    Thanks again!
