Sure looks like it might. It will all depend on the af speed IMO.
Does the V1 get smackdown from the new Canon EOS M

Guess it depends on what you want. If you want to AF with your Nikkors, there is only one choice, Nikon 1.

Well when the V1 came out I thought to myself, "I'll never buy one of those toys."
When a friend bought one and I had some time to shoot with it for half a day, I thought to myself, "I will DEFINITELY never one of those toys."
My first reaction to the Canon is damn - they did it just about right. Just modern/simple enough for the average buyer but it has it where it counts - the sensor. If I was in the market I would short list it.

Until you see that the camera battery is rated for 230 shots... vs the V1 with over 400. A video on youtube showed that the AF is slow too, like Fuji X100 slow.

hmmm 18mp on 1.6x, 10.2mp on 2.7x.... we'll see what the tests prove, conjecture would be that iso performance is about the same( a big conjecture )
control seems to be about the same, no dedicated dials.
another new mount, nikon 1 vs ef-m(albeit still aps-c sensor)
yeah, comes down to af speed and over all feelPosted 10 months ago # -
In terms of video options, the EOS-M loses out. We need to see quality and continuous AF speed though. I have no doubts however that the EOS-M will beat the N1 in stills. Also, my god its ugly.

yeah, comes down to af speed and over all feelGiven the same equivalent aperture, the V1/J1 has similar quantum efficiency when compared to D4/D3s. On the other hand, Canon's sensor's quantum efficiency is only similar to D700/D3. So V1 and J1 should win Canon's sensor by about slightly less than half a stop.

IMHO, the new canon is totally useless for serious shooter - no EVF viewfinder. though I like the fact that the flash shoe looks standard, wish to see one like that in Nikon.

In my opinion, both Nikon and Canon aren't eating each other up. They are all made to be sold to their fans, and might use their name to make them more sell-able. In my opinion, currently only M43 is the only good option in the mirrorless land. But still, I don't see a big reason for M43 to be there at all, looking at those high-end non-interchangeable lens compacts, like the Sony RX100. Currently, the only flaw I see in the Sony camera is the corner sharpness wide open.
Mirrorless are for compactness, but if it isn't pocketable, then that rules out almost the entire point of buying a mirrorless camera. Currently, the only lens+camera kit that is pocketable (marginally) is 14-42 PZ with Oly/Panny EV-less cameras, and maybe some primes. But they are all overpriced. At those price, I could get a DSLR with their lenses, and might have some money left over. Looking at the price of 25mm 0.95, it's kinda laughable. It's equivalent to 50mm 1.9 on FX. We could get a 50mm 1.8 for just a few hundred bucks. Olympus and Panasonic seems to be exploiting the community (majority) that knows nothing about equivalent apertures. Most people only knows about crop factor, because it directly affects their shooting, as for equivalent apertures? No.

I like mirrorless cameras- I wish they were out when I were actually considering them. I bought my D40 kit in March of 2008.
I feel like the performance of a mirrorless camera is just about the same if not better than the entry level DSLRs, in some cases surpassing them- take a look at the EM-5.
I just wish they could do something about that price- I'd gladly pay a weight penalty if there's really no price difference.
And I know nothing about the Canon's specs yet, but it definitely has the Nikon 1 series beat on looks. It never looked all that pretty.

specs are already out

looks like a j1 contender, with an aps c sensorPosted 10 months ago # -

looks like a j1 contender, with an aps c sensorIt's more like a NEX contender, but losing badly. J1 and V1 is kinda like a totally different class of camera.

yeah, the more i look at it the more it looks like a NEX.
