    HELLO EVERYONE; GOOD EVENING:
I was planning to adquire a new Nikon D90 body next november in a upcoming trip to Dallas, TX. But I receive a mail from a friend in San Francisco telling me that a new Nikon D90s is on target for next spring... Can anyone confirm this?... please?.... Best regards... Joseph!

Hi Joseph :^) Nope I haven't heard a thing. I think Nikon has already made all the "S" models it will for the time being. I think people are starting to think that every single DSLR in Nikon's line up will get an "S" upgrade which isn't going to happen.

A totally new D90 replacement would make more sense and late summer 2010 would coincide with the two year mark since the D90 was first announced so a replacement is possible then. But I would NOT hold off on buying a D90 now just because a replacement may or may not come along in six plus months. It's a good camera and you'd be missing out on a lot of great pictures.

Besides there will always be something bigger and better coming along no matter what you buy.

    QUE VIVA MEXICO!!!

I would think that a new D400 would come first before the next update to the D90 level. It is unlikely the D400 will be released within the next 6 -9 months and the D90 replacement should be at least 6 months after that. so probably at least a year before the next update to the D90 level camera. If you want that camera its no use waiting I think..

@ Gabby : D400 .... Arrrrr ... drool .... Yup i am waiting for that one too.. Hope that Nikon can get "Their Own" sensor(like the D3S) into it instead of using the Sony ones. I am hoping its a 14-15 mp thing with about 2 stop better High ISO than the current D300S. But it may be just wishful thinking even though there is current technology available that can do even better.

LOL ... the D300s just came out and everyone is drooling for the next one ... :D

@heartyfisher, of course there is newer technology available that can do even better things, but would you be willing to pay the price of a D3x for the D400?

@monty : 8-) yeah we are so crazy ! I guess thats why I am on a rumour site !! Still .. the D3 is about 1 stop and a bit better than the d300/S and the new D3S is about 2-4 stops better than the D300 it would be easy to imagine that they could bring out a d300S class camera NOW with 1-2 stops over the D300 since its the same time frame difference between the D3 to D3S. Its all marketing.. I think they have just delayed the D400 because they were afraid of the GFC. With any luck they may rethink their strategy and release the D400 earlier than expected. Because the global economic recovery may be progressing better than expected.

Well I've found that you get much more pleasure out of life when you have low expectations and pleasant surprises then with high expectations and bitter disappointments. Try it, it's really fun :D

I doubt Nikon would put out a DX body with more MPs than the D3s currently in production. I would think a D4/D4X would precede a D400. I doubt these will be out anytime soon.

The history of Dx0 mid-model upgrades is weak.
There is the D70s with a larger LCD and a more powerful flash than the D70, and the D40x, which was sold in parallel to the D40 and makes it more of a new product than an upgrade to the current one.

Then again, the history of Dx00 models was even weaker and the d300s came out!

Allow me to interpret Ken Rockwell.

The D90s is already out, it's called the D5000, it's smaller and has a swivel LCD, you can buy it here, here or here. (these would be links to Adorama, Amazon and Ritz)

You get the same image quality in a much smaller body! Who wants to carry big bodies these days? Not me!
The swivel LCD will allow you to frame stuff from awkward angles, it's ideal for video. Of course, the D5000 is not as good as my Fuji QuickSnap (http://www.kenrockwell.com/fuji/quicksnap.htm) because it's only 12 digital mega pixels and my RealRaw Fuji QuickSnap can be scanned to up to over 9000mp, but you get the avantage of video.

Of course, combined with the marvelous 18-55mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 you get the best nikon video camera ever made!

I support my growing family through this website, please give me money so I can write more articles.

    D5000 is not d90!!!

adn I aslo doubt there's going to be a d90s, as d90 already has all the features - video and high iso

I was writing like Ken Rockwell does.

I know the D5000 is not a D90, or else they would call it a D90...

Still, I don't see many differences between both cameras, they are both D300's in crippled bodies.

Depth of field preview. EN-EL3e battery. .94 vs .78 viewfinder magnification. Now, please, no begging on this forum. We all have families to support. (I'm up for adoption from a nice family with trust funds).

Nikon just called me to say that all the S models from now on will be called KR
also new technology on all the bodies is crackable KR button, all the money will go as a donation to KRs family and to "D40-forever" charity group

Like Jack Benny, but at least he made it to 40. (If this is too obscure for the young, use wikipedia.)
