I've inherited two FX lenses 24-70 & 70-200 but have a D80 body. Is it worth upgrading to a D700?

If you have, and want to, spend the money... Yes. That's kind of like asking if you should drink water if you are thirsty.

    Hi mike

Assuming you shoot RAW and are happy using something like Lightroom 4 , the improvement in image quality will be enormous

but beware,The D700 is a professional camera, with lots of buttons, dials and options in the menu. It does not have an AUTO or "Idiot Modes": (portrait, night scene, etc)

However If you want to take photography seriously, the anwer is simple

    Get the D700

It doesn't have "scene" options, but you can set it to "P" program and the ISO to auto, and it will then make all the decisions for you should you so wish. If you buy a nice second hand D700 Mike, I think you'll be delighted, and will get much better use out of that lovely glass you've got.
