The Nikon Small World 2009 microscopic world photo contest was won by an Estonian geneticist Heiti Parves. The photo is of the stamen of Arabidopsis Thaliana (thale cress or mouse-ear cress) that has been enlarged 20 times. What makes the photo especially fitting is that Arabidopsis Thaliana was the first plant which was wholly genemapped (26000+ genes) in 2000.
