Yes but you get more that 2 pictures on it! Personally I think if photography looks anything like it does now in 100 years, we'll be in interactive hologram territory. The good thing about that prediction is none of you can prove me wrong! :-)
Humm think I wanted to say 32TB but guess had a brain-hand disagreement. I forgot to mention the camera would fold up to a small wrist watch so you could carry it almost anywhere. The holographic mode is only for video but requires an extra battery pack. I think I took it too far, but agree, I guess people will have to prove us wrong, lol.
I just turned away a D800. Had my name on the call list at a local camera shop since early May for when they got their next batch of D800s in. They called today to tell me it's in. I decided not to buy it. The guy said he'd scratched off a few names of people who decided to pass. Based on specs I think the D600 might be the camera for me.

My prediction is a Veselago lens with foreground object cloaking. The holograms would be fun, too.
There are no queue police. Eventually the small Nikon retail stores will sell all the D800's to local seekers and start to stock them. Once on their shelves they stop ordering. At that point B&H will revieve more and can start to work off the line that, all indications derived here, extends from now until December (of some year).

I just looked at the picture of the new pancake lens on todays new C@non SLR item on photorumors.
I spent five full minutes of my life deciding that not only was it really ugly, but I ended up not finding a good answer to the question "Why put a pancake lens on an dSLR?"
So it's a bit flatter than a regular standard lens, and that might lower the "footprint" of the camera a small amount compared to a 50mm lens, but the mirror noise & shutter release sounds are going to be the same, so its not really all that much more discrete (is it?)...
Well despite not really having the need for it and really wanting a longer lens I got a used 17-55 F2.8 today. It seems to work great although I forgot how short the zoom length is compared to the 18-200. If it doesn't work out I got it for a good enough price I could probably make money off of it.

Yes. I made exactly that point in another posting on another thread. My 11-16 gives me that feeling too - the zoom range is very (too) narrow. Wonder when they will bring on a 10-1000 f1.0 with no distortion?
Seriously though, I have become so used to the range of the 18-105 that I have finally got past wanting to swap it for a 16-85, but now I am lusting after the 18-200....

I am thinking I might sell my 18-200 and get the 70-300 for extra range. Might also sell my 35 F1.8 and get something else...don't think it will get much use anymore with the 17-55.

So what do you think the difference between 200 and 300 is going to do for your image capturing? I have the 70-300VR and I only use it on wildlife and motorsport (both uses it isn't long enough for). I would like to get the 80-400 now.
Maybe we should swap lenses!

I must admit, my 18-200 gets very little use at the moment as well. But, when I go out with my nephew (he is 10), it really comes in handy, due to weight and size for him to handle my setup during the daytime. Beside, if he is a bit is careless, it will not be any of my 2.8's. In addition, when he want to take pictures at night, the 35 1.8 is fantastic. In fact, it is his favorit lens of mine (little does he know what I got...hehe) because it is very light and he like to get close to whatever the action is.
As for your status tcole1983, I would not part with any prime lenses, but should you sell the 18-200 that 85 1.8G we have been talking about would make an excellent replacement....hint...hint! :P

I like to shoot animals and I am always at 200 mm on those and lots of times that isn't long enough. That would be my only use for it really. I know 300 still might not do, but I have made do with the 200 mm max so some extra reach certainly wouldn't hurt. I would also maybe use it for sport and motorsports, but I don't get the chance to shoot those much.

Ha that 85 was my second thought...if I sold the 18-200 and the 35 to swap for the 70-300 and 85 f1.8.

I actually really like that idea. Nikon used to have a 50mm pancake lens that I thought was pretty awesome.
The canon pancake apparently is optimized for video use.
Especially with smaller bodies, the lens practically disappears. Ever use a 35mm 1.8 with a D40 sized camera? It's awesome. It'd be even cooler if it was a smaller package.
At tcole- enjoy the 17-55! I personally love the 35mm 1.8, but that's just my opinion.
Probably some of you are aware of the ongoing European Football Championship. (this is a 100million+ viewers event) On the sidelines the Canon to Nikon ratio is about 7:3, but what I found interesting that behind the net there is a big batch of remote controlled cameras and they are all Nikons, that meant 20+ Nikon d3/d4's on both sides. (observed during the Spain vs. Italy game just now) Also in the areas occupied by the more accomplished photographers (closer to the main action) there are a lot of nikons, possibly 50-50%.
We are going on a hot air balloon ride Saturday. Hope to get some good pics during that...we shall see how it works out. Excited to try the new lens out also...haven't had much of a chance.
So I have been out using the 17-55 and leaving my 18-200 at home. So far I haven't missed it really. I do need something longer then my 105...I was really planning on the 70-300, but I might save for a while and just bite the bullet and finally get the 300 F4 and be done with it. I really only need the longer lens for animals and I think I would be more impressed with the 300 F4 then with the 70-300.
In case anyone was wondering ;)

Anytime you improve the quality of the glass there is an opportunity to also improve the quality of the end product. Go for the 300 f/4. Why compromise?
Well there went the 18-200 today...a little sad, but I won't be when I have my 300 F4.
When I thought about it more...I only wanted the 70-300 for the 300 which seems to be its weakest point from the reviews. Figured I should save and get what I really want. I will have a bit of a gap, but then my next purchase might be a TC...put it on my 105 and can get 150-200ish depending on which one I get.

I priced it fairly low. Doesn't seem like the market is that great for them atm and they aren't going for much...$500-$600. Mine was in pristine minus a small ding on the barrel from when it got dropped. It didn't effect the lens at all, but I knew it would make it harder to sell. I got about what I thought I would get.
I shot these after it had been dropped (and my final tribute to it)
Interesting feature on google shopping. About half way down the page it compares the camera you put in with other Nikon cameras and also with other brands cameras. Kind of a quick and dirty of the pluses and minuses of the camera you search and others. Also has reviews and prices.
