Rx4Photo, you're probably right about the car, I got the same answer from another source here at NR. That first shot is my favourite too, I think that kind of light really works for his face. I only wish I could have gotten a bit more of the car but that would have meant backing it out into the field and for some reasont that wasn't an option :p

Here's another shot of the same man in different circumstances, holding his granddaughter, a.k.a. my muppet.

Thank you all for you kind words and warm welcome to this section. I promise to be more active in this area.

I must admit, I was really contemplating which photo to post, in conjunction with which lens I had used...given my arsenal :P The more I thought of it, I came to the conclusion that every time I had gone out shooting I have always taken a camera bag with at least 2-3 lens in it and a flash. So, on my last outing, I told myself: "Let's see how creative and flexible I can be with my new toy, the 85mm 1.8G only." Ladies and gentleman, I cannot stress enough how impressed I'm with this lens...I truly hope each of you get the opportunity in obtains/owning one.

This little experiment of mine has put me on a new path with respect to what gear I will be using in the future. That is to say, the next time I go out shooting, I will, regardless of what I will be shooting, limit myself to just one lens in order to see what I, as a photographer, can accomplish. I truly believe I this will make me a better photographer in knowing the limitation of my gear, my ability to adapt to setting and how to address the subject I seek to take a photo of.

    Cheers...

Just got the 85mm f/1.8G myself, and it is a lovely little lens. I like to do that sometimes, just take one lens and force myself to work within its constraints so that I may more fully use each lens. More often than not, I bring a ton of lenses and only use a couple, just in case I wind up in a situation where I immediately not regret having some lens or other. It's amazing how much lighter my pack would be if I ditched the "just in case" stuff... pretty sure I'd reduce a week's travel kit by half!

    Nice Hair!

If you want to give your auto focus a workout try shooting a raggae singer. They never stand still and are constantly going up and down, up and down. It's like shooting someone on a pogo stick, no kidding. lol

    Thank you!

Foie gras is very good, but I've only had it once before. Some people think the process of making it isn't very humane. I am aware of the process, but I don't think I have any qualms about it. Either way you're still slaughtering the animal. Might as well use every part.

My dad was somewhat annoyed that I didn't use butter in the cooking process. I know it gives it a richer taste and mouth feel, but I purposely didn't add it because I know his body doesn't need any more butter.

Wow, tcole, all the atmosphere of a fair in one shot.

A shot from over a year ago, that I brought up in conversation today as an example of how to make suburban photography interesting. A couple dozen candles set up on a playground carousel, then slowly spun. Police were called on my friend and I, but then only made us leave when they determined there were no occult happenings.

Reminds me of JonnyApple's story he told here once - apparently he was shooting icicles on his balcony and a female neighbor called the cops because she thought he was taking pics of her through her window. Pretty funny.

Thanks Juergen, don't feed my ego too much though :p

kanuck, my wife will be jealous, Korea is the place she wants to travel to the most. Wouldn't mind going there myself either.

This will probably be the last shot I share for a while, running out agian. It's my dad's wife. Not entirely happy with it but it was a quick affair and I mostly wanted to test the light, which I do think works quite well. I think I like this black and white version best.

Rifqi portraits do not have to be always fully lit. I like these character shots in b/w.

How about a little whimsy? Some of the NRF folks may actually know what this is.... other than my practicing macro shots...

Whimsy... do you know what this is?

FYI, the horizontal size in real life is about 40mm
