Any one have any definitive word on when we're really getting the D700x?? Some one on this site said "before November 2009" (posted in June). Well November is approaching and there's not been any more mention.

Not that I'm in a hurry to buy a 2nd camera body (have a D300) but if I were it would probably be a 24MP, 1080p 14 min clip D700x (with other new and enhanced features of course). Also, it should be "made in Japan" as the current D700.

rumor has it that there will be a "D3s" this fall, and the D700x/D800 will come next spring. However, if your ready to buy a D700 then just do it. Then sell it when it's replacement comes around (whenever that happens). Nikon pro equipment holds its value well.

I must say, Nikon gear does hold value really well. I ebayed my D80 last year, and sold it for $400 less than what I paid for it nearly 2 years prior. I was quite amazed being a consumer model.

Doesn't look as though there will be a D700s/x in our future. The D700 replacement will be an entirely new camera instead.(D800?)

I agree with NikoDoby. If they put a higher MP sensor in, they will go to a D800 designation. This is what I'm waiting for. If I win the lottery, I'll buy a D3x.

According to a very reliable source, this year there will be no Nikon D700s or Nikon D700x.
What Nikon plans to do is to launch totally new D800 to replace the existing D700.
There are several features available in Nikon D800:

    1) Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
    2) High resolution 24.5 MP.
    3) High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
    4) 51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)

Basically Nikon D800 will compete head to head against Canon's EOS 5D MkII.
Most likely Nikon will launch the brand new D800 before Christmas end of this year.
