I'll take a dozen (even!) strobes over static lights any day! Not to mention the crew I'd need to hide (and/or move) said lights if I was being pushed on a dolly!
My head hurts just thinking of all the additional logistical problems video would add to my life. I'll stick my head in the sand for a while, see what's what when the storm blows over!

I doubt you could run with a tripod and make some good video ...
You have many spray and pray shooters with still images and they rarely make anything, I am not sure more spraying with video will help.
Somehow I prefer to concentrate on making a single photo right then making bunch of not so good ones, and I am using tripod a lot while doing it.Posted 3 years ago # -
I guess I've done big "productions" before so that's not really a problem for me. I think I'm up for the challenge of a photo/video session done in this way, but I think this can be achieved on a smaller scale with just me myself and I and a 24mp D700X of course :^)

But what about all of the videos shot with the current crop of video DSLRs mb? Most of those are not big productions. Besides I wouldn't recommend running with a DSLR. At least not until they improve the rolling shutter effect.

If I remember correctly the question of this post was will video kill the photography, and IMHO it will not

Nope, just like photography didn't kill painting or drawing as some had hoped :^)

I still think its more likely that still photography kills video. Think about it... The D3s is supposed to do like 15fps on a 5mp DX Crop. All we need to do is get to 25mp's and presto, still photography and video are the same thing... just different settings. If i upload my photos to aperture, they show up as stills. If I upload them to final cut studio, the software encodes them as video.
I'm not saying it will go down this way. Storage, data transfer, and processing all have to catch up. It would also take one hell of a shutter mechanism to pull off 25fp. But I look on the horizon and see stuff like holographic storage, high volume transfer technologies like light peek, and multi-core mobile processors going into stuff the size of an iPhone, and I have to think that we can theoretically get there.
You cam-corder won't be eating your DSLR, but your DSLR just might eat your camcorder.

I agree that DSLR video will hurt camcorder sales. Just look at how all the indie film makers are all over the 5DmkII. Even though they were first to the HD market, I think Nikon underestimated the popularity of video in a "pro" DSLR.

What I need is a 50 fps video to stop these aircraft propellers from moving backwards or even look as they are not rotating at times ! Horrible !
By the way, I don't believe that taking stills from a movie - or from a sequence of stills taken at 8 FPS from my DSLR - will ever turn anyone into a good photographer. Composition rules are here to stay for ever, either for drawing, painting, video, or photography. Nothing to worry about in my humble opinion... :o)
