Looks like canon will NOT be attending PMA in Feb 2010. Nikon and Sony might leave too? If not this PMA probably the following? Or is Nikon bringing something BIG to PMA 2010 and canon is running scared? I doubt it but....

Didn't the same thing happen to Macworld? Apple left, which pretty much destroys the point of it!
I know Apple left because Macworld affected holiday sales—perhaps it's the same reason?

I personally think it's the internet's fault. These trade shows use to be the place where Nikon,canon, and others unveiled new tech. But now the internet let's them do it when their ready, on their own schedules and how they want to do it. The internet allows for a much bigger audience.
I think the future is like what Leica did with the M9 and X1 unveiling. They did it live via their website. And what apple always does too.

You're probably right. The internet makes it so easy to tell the whole world at once, without any fiddling presentations, deadlines, and anything else like that.

Lots of the big trade shows have been having a tough time. The problem is that they stopped being about information exchange and started to be a venue to introduce products to the world. Then companies realized that you could still build hype, but also control your time line by using the blogosphere instead. I hope they continue in a less form. Its always a good idea to get a bunch of people together that all do the same thing. Good things happen when that happens.

PhotoPlus East is going to be quite lame as well. Mac Group, and Hasselblad won't be there, nor do I see Adobe Systems on the list either. Since the Mac Group no longer distributes the Leaf Digital Back, that does not surprise me, nor does Hasselblad. If Adobe does not make it there, that surprises me.

Leica is also jumping ship and won't be attending PMA 2010. Surprising since I thought they'd want to show off the X1,M9, and S2 there.
I guess trade shows in general are endangered?
