Does Nikon beat Mamiya? Does Bambi meet Godzilla?
Some comparisons and impressions after 1 week shooting the D800e.

While I appreciate everyone's right to their opinion I think the review is, quite frankly, a bit weak. I hope you will take the opportunity to do some side-by-side photo comparisons that are minimally processed to reflect the actual images the cameras are capturing.
If you cannot do the comparisons please send me the Mamiya and assorted lenses and I will let you, and everyone else that reads NR, know how they compare. ;)
You may also wish to review the Hasselblad/D800 comparison which was linked on NR and which serves as a decent, although not empirical, review.
Testing a "pro" camera using 28-300 "prosumer" lens, rather than a "pro" prime or a pro mid range zoom seems a bit unrealistic
If you want to see razor sharp images from an 800, try the 100mm macro stopped down to f8. Results from the 24 - 120 f4 and the 70-200f 2.8 are pretty dam good too
With the right lens I believe it gets you a lot closer than before however, I would have to say no it does not. There is a lot more noise with the D800/D800e than medium format no matter what lens you use. I think the comparison theory is simply someone's wet dream to save $20-40 grand. Just like in the era of film there is no substitute for Medium format period.
Outside the self promotion to drive people to your site...for each of the three topics and multiple other posts... You could actually take the time to copy and paste some thoughts.
You do have some great work - especially the panoramas. I would love to see the difference of your 22mp mammy vs the D800e at low isos for that.
We all know the MFmt systems can out color with 16bits but the 22mp vs 36mp is probably a good test if done right as the price is closer than the Huge Hassys I have seen done.
The 28-300 doesn't cut it for sure. I would think the 60mm vs a 120 on the Mammy would be a better test for sure.
This thread should be over on

So, if we are going to hash over all the issues of resolution, ISOs, erc, of the D800 vs whatever.....
