Juergen, I'll do my best to get some nice shots. Here's the same critter again from a different angle.

One more of the Master...Josh Hayes dominated the Superbikes for the weekend... ran away from the field on both Saturday and Sunday. But, the Knee-Con equipment was the outstanding performer in my world.
Nikon D4, 400mm f/2.8 VR Nikkor, TC20-EIII, 1/1000th @ f/11, ISO 1600, Manfrotto Gimbal on Benro Tripod
And for the pixel peepers... the 2000pixel version on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/fantinesfotos/7332495522/sizes/o/in/photostream/
Note similarity between the bugs and bike.... thanks Rifqi

Amazing beyond words, Msmoto. The full-size version really brings it out. I like the blurry air from the exhaust pipe.
D4, Nikkor Micro 105
Technically not the finest marco shot. But I wanted to share with you the fierce look he gave me.
Macro work can be freightening :-)Jürgen

@boem- my hornet pic was not rifqi-sharp on the face, prime focus was on the lip of the nest; my suggestion is that you straighten your sunset and possibly crop it to increase the relative size of the setting sun
from the rest, I gather I must
a) beg borrow or steal exotic glass and high-tech tripods
b) learn to stitch panoramas
c) try B&W treatments
d) go to better partiesI'm calling this one "Layers of Green"

This is just a great place to learn and be inspired. Can't post from where I am now, but perhaps in a couple of weeks, if I can capture an image up the standard displayed here.

This small version on Flickr looks over sharpened to me, but the full size version (1024x1280) I am satisfied with. Sometimes I wish it was possible to do all sizes on Flickr by hand... so if you sort of like it, pls see the big version
Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly or Small Bluetail (Ischnura pumilio)

@VelocityStop I really like how the last layer of cloud before the horizon is lined up almost perfectly with the locomotive's headlight... almost makes it look like the beam of light. Very cool.

It's clouded, raining, grey, cold... but these lit up the day! Passed them walking home today:

Late afternoon my new Nikkor AF-S 105 mm 2.8 G ED lens arrived. I went around everywhere taking photo's and the best shot was the one of my wife who made note and I quote "If this is posted anywhere on-line" and I forget the rest as I tuned out and remembered not to use her photo. Instead, I am using a master lock that is on the snowmobile trailer.

Your Oregon fall reminds me of Hawaii beso.
Beautiful treckie, looks like glass.
Superb again kanuck, lovely colors and texture, very Jurassic.
I taught he was looking at you msmoto, amazing shot.
My first real try of the new Nikkor 14-24mm F2.8, this lens is sooo sharp, I love it already, thanks to those recommending it.I played with the perspective on this one.
Edit, just noticed two rainbow-like lense artifact on the right bottom, funny.

Very cool. Thanks! It was totally unintentional and actually bugged me at first when processing the picture. I thought it was an artifact from editing, so I checked the unedited pic and others at the same location and saw that it was just part of the clouds and a totally natural phenomenon. I didn't notice how it lined up with the headlight until you mentioned it, but now I really like it. :)

Well done, everyone. I like the motion one from page 4, velocitystop.
Great shot, Kanuck.
Awesome superbike, msmoto. I don't know how those guys don't just fall (actually one of my students laid down his bike during some amateur day at the miller motorsports park in Utah last year—it was on the last turn of the day and he thought he could take it with just a bit more speed than he could).
cyclekraft, great composition and b&w treatment on page 4.In case you've missed the transit of Venus today, here's the one shot I got of it. The next one isn't until 2117. :-(
I had almost no time time focus as it just peeked out of the clouds for a few minutes and then the clouds came back and dumped rain on us. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html has a live view of the transit from a satellite (no atmospheric blurring, either) that makes my image look silly, but whatevs.

6-image stitch, 20 minutes into the transit (the exif is wrong—I still haven't changed my camera for daylight savings).Posted 11 months ago # -
@jonnyapple .....absolutely awesome! I mean this is extremely difficult to do. I watched the feed from Manua Loa in the islands... incredible. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/06/watch-transit-venus/ is the link. I think I might order a 10 f/stop ND filter from B & H so I can shoot some shots of the sun. There are some instructions on the web, and this was what was suggested. Maybe a new thread on "Shooting the Sun"???
