@Rifqi - I really like this one. Great angle, focus etc. ... With tubes aren't you right on top of your subjects? How do you get them to stay put? - Impressive. Perhaps we should refer to you as the "Bug Whisperer"

Benji2505 - Nice DoF. I particularly like the having the foreground sand in focus. What lens?

@msmoto - Nice. Do you handhold or use a monopod? Also, are you shooting singles or putting that D4 into rattlesnake mode?

@adamz - Always incredible. Love the focus and detail.

I had posted this over on the HDR discussion, but I wanted to share it here as well. This was a real DoF challenge.

Tried to post this earlier, just as I hit the post button, a storm knocked the power out.
PAD is inspiring. Bland inspired me to take a stop action shot at a "whitewater rodeo" on the Clark Fork River in Missoula.

@Eric...D4 is always in "rattlesnake" mode unless I am using flash. For fast objects... about nine FPS, shorter lenses, portraits, about four FPS. The lens was the 70-200m f/2.8VRII w/ the TC-20EIII and even at 400mm I hand hold this. The 400mm prime is always on a Benro Carbon Tripod with a Manfrotto Gimbal which is so absolutely smooth.

About your DOF tutorial here WOW!

msmoto - I was maybe 8-10 meters away, but as I wrote here many times my tiger images are taken in zoo, so that's not a problem; just find a good angle, stabilize Your lens and play a little bit with the picture in post processing - nothing really special. in general my technique is to:
    1. get as close to the subject as possible - I'm not gonna tell anyone how close is enough, as my borders are probably not acceptable by most of ppl, I remember that once I was taking snaps of elks with a 24mm zeiss glass, and even I was just couple cm (not even a meter) away I felt quite comfortable; other time I was going through jungle and neither me nor my guid saw a bear and her cub and than I haven't feel comfortable :)
    2. get the best lens You can have
    3. stabilize Your camera and lens - that's even more important than point 2
    4. play a little bit in PP
    5. enjoy :)

    Very nice everyone!
Thank you Adamz for sharing your technique.

    Dragonflies in Brunei

This is from the same set as the previous one. I wish, I could have played a bit more with the DoF to blur the background just a little bit more, but my models were not patient enough.

Pierre, I like the colours in that one.

Eric, I'm pretty close, maybe somewhere around 30 cm, but to be honest I often wouldn't mind to be even closer, especially when I'm holding whatever the bug is sitting on. The lacewing a while back and the ant on the flower are examples of that. If I could get a bit closer I think my position would be steadier. Flies are usually pretty easy to get close to. The problem with the previous shot was holding the pink paper for background at the same time. I had to first find a position so I could sit and rest the camera on my knee.

Here's another shot of the same bug as a few days ago but without the green background.

Eric, the shell was taken with the 105mm f2.8 macro ("micro") lens.

I am not certain how many of these car shots are tolerable, but this is one called "Hot into Six"

    Nationwide Practice

    2000px size: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fantinesfotos/7422102424/sizes/o/in/photostream/

I must admit, I have been experimenting with some lens/extension tube combos for the macros and eventually may catch on. The great shots make me jealous.

MsMoto, Mustangs are always more than tolerable! ;-)

Sydney Opera House at 6:00am in the morning, exposed for 180 seconds at F/14 with ISO50 from the Nikon D800e. The long exposure shows the movement of stars and also begins to show the sun rising from the east, mixing the warm colour of the sun with the cool shades of night. Utilised a Nikon D800e with AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F/2.8G ED lens mounted on Manfrotto 055X ProB tripod with 808RC4 head and a remote release to control the exposure (bulb mode).

D800e, 24-70mm F/2.8G - 70mm, 180 seconds, F/14, ISO50, 6:06am in the morning at Circular Quay, Sydney. Surprise surprise, another D800 turned up there as well. Unusual to see two of them at once.

It's the most fantastic DSLR I've set my hands on. I just love the images and everything about it. And I love that Nikon service got it back to me so fast after the little accident. They are the best!

Thanks all for the comments on the kayaker shot.
The macros are great, not sure how you all get such magnification with a 105, but they are really nice.
Avro, beautiful capture of the Opera House.
Msmoto, my second car was a 65 Mustang (the first was a 1950 Willys Jeep 4 banger), 289, four on the floor, so photos of Mustangs and racing cars are always appreciated.
