So what are the benefits of the new Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm VR lens over the old Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm VR lens?
Is the zoom lock at the minimum zoom all there is?
Is the new lens worth the extra money over the older one?
where there’s smoke there’s forum fire

Unless the zoom lock and "Gold" instead of "Red" VR badge is important to you, then no nothing new.
So based on that what is Nikon doing?
Making the people who cried about the zoom creep happy.
This is not worth the $100.00 more they are now asking. Plus I like the red VR rather than the gold VR.
The other issue is that the original lens does not creep when fully closed at 18mm and I think that this the only position that the new one will lock at. So this makes no sense to me, but what do I know I am just Joe consumer.
But Henry it's real gold ;^)
I think the 100 dollar increase is more about the weaker economic situation then about the $100 zoom lock.
Then I must have one!
I actually have the old one with the red VR and the AF-S 70-300mm VR which also has the red VR and I like the fact that they match.
There you go. Just get a matching red camera strap with your name in gold letters and you'll be Big Pimpin in no time :^)
I actually have the OP/Tech USA red camera strap, so I am set.
LOL !!! Don't forget your pimp hat and cane
Henry Nikon Fan,
How do you like the 70-300VR?
The new 18-200 has the Nikon "Super Integrated Coating", what ever that is. can anyone shed the light on its benefit, and if its so called benefit is real as the MTF chart is identical?
Better VR and better optics, basically.
New lens does not creep in any position, lock is only added for, well, locking during transport.
As with any coating it reduces ghost and flare, only better ...
