Pardon for my excitement, but I'm interested to see if Nikon will announce an affordable ZOOM lens with FL that starts on short end greater than 28mm. In other words, we have seen the following zooms released in last few years: 16-35mm, 24-120/4.0 VR, 28-300mm. I see that it's mentioned they (may) release a 24-70/3.5-4.5. Why so many crowded FL lenses? How about a 70-200/4.0 from Nikon? Or a 100-300mm? Maybe they are trying to tighten up their general purpose zooms. (?)
I will probably start w/ 70-300 VR (for my D800) if they don't announce a either of my preferred lenses mentioned above. I see so many mixed reviews of the original 70-200/2.8 because of vignetting and edge/corner sharpness. We shall see. Hopefully!!
