tai - love this shot, as the butterfly really stands out from the rest of the picture
art - try to use the static link from flickr (once You logged in on flickr, choose the picture You want to, and right above it there's a small symbol with "ALL SIZES", click on it, and copy paste the generated code)

art - another great photo, I really like the perspective, IMO to make this photo even better You could move a little bit to left (there's some cropping on the left, as the tree is not fully on the picture) and play a little bit with clouds (to make the trees even more stand out); anyway, really nice shoot
Nice work guys. Love the dogs. I feel your pain on the high ISO capeabilities of the D40... and the autofocus is crap to boot (not bad, but only 3 AF points).

I came into this thread late so I apologize for my general comments. I like the composition of all of these and in looking at them, I am learning more about how to compose a variety of photos.
Here's my first addition to this thread from my comfort zone:

adamz, The two shadows reaching in from the bottom right of the image are cast by some tall grasses just out view, the image was taken at a rest area, due to the amount of snow I was the first to visit the lakeside, the only disturbance to the virgin snow being made by some sheep !
gentoo - was the bird in this position or is the picture rotated, as it will look (IMHO) better rotated 90deg counter clockwise, also there's something wrong with focus on bird's head; like the cropping a lot
monty11 - You could try gentoo's cropping, as it will suit Your picture better, also You can use some burn on the bird head to take it a little bit from the shadows; nice composition

Today's photo was taken on my FE a couple weeks ago using Velvia 50 and a 35mm f/2 AIS. It's the manhattan bridge if anyone's wondering, scanned on my plustek 7500i.

It was hanging upside down. Chickadees (Tits in the UK) do this often. I think I screwed with my focus with this shot as my friend was using my camera the day before and she wanted the focus to lock. I usually have it on continuous. If I rotated the photo then the bird would not have been shown in it's true position.
Perhaps you can give your focus opinion? I'm always up for feedback. Thanks for the comment on my cropping. What did you like about it so I can keep doing it?

gentoo - as for the bird shoot, the thing with focusing on animals is generally one role of thumb - eyes must be razor sharp (or at least sharp), like with the other picture You took (LINK); as for Your second picture, I like the composition, check the colors, as it looks like little bit (10-15%) over saturated, also like the way the main subject stands out from the background - summing up - it's a nice shoot
tai - VELVIA RULEZ :) however, tell me please what is the main subject of this picture as I'm little bit confused between people in the front and bridge in the back
@adamz. I think it's both in a way. You see shots of just a bridge constantly, I took a number that day. To me having people just hanging around doing their thing juxtaposed against the grand structure of the bridge brings it back to earth and humanizes it.

I'm guessing you're saying you like the focus in the hawk picture? Yeah with vision like mine focus is generally hit and miss at times but I've gotten better and learned to compensate most of the time. Imagine me trying to MF lol
The picture of my friend perhaps is a bit oversaturated, I often forget to re adjust the setting for shots of people. I have a couple that look like she's on fire! Then again, her and another photographer friend of mine said they like the way this one looked because of the colors. I'll try to remember to tone it down a bit next time to see.
monty11, good eye here! I like the softness of the evening (or morning?) light and there is lots of texture. The rock in the middle may have a bit of blown highlights but nothing any normal person would notice. No biggy, I'm the king of blown highlights myself. If I saw this in an art gallery it would definitely grab my attention.
That one is morning on my way to a small nature trek ... I have one from that I want to put up later.
I know about the blown highlights, I guess I should have shot this with bracketing and attempted a HDR, I didn't want to use the Recovery slider any more as it started to hurt the picture.
For me it tells even a story but maybe it's the Tolkien books I've been reading lately :D
