Finally found a Nikon tethering program worthy of the name. It's called Camera RC, I have been using it successfully and very pleased to find something that works. I know I can't post a link but this is too good not to be made known. I have no interest in the company besides being a satisfied customer.

'Camera RC' is far too general a term to google, one gets a zillon irrelevant hits.

Well, if one just pulls them together CameraRC who knows what one might find... it is a NIKON tethering device, however and may be very useful. This is a hard wired device as far as I can tell.
