    90 megabits a second!

Cool, but is it compatible? They show it with a D300 in the picture, but will it work with any camera of today?

"SanDisk engineered its Power Core™ Controller to take *whatever your camera's buffer can dish out.*"

If your camera's not fast enough, it's pretty much useless.

It's understandable why they designed this though:

"And with up to 64GB of storage, you'll be ready for more RAW+JPEG and *high-def video*."

But I still think Sandisk has extremely overdone it this time.

As long as your camera is UDMA compatible you should be OK. Why do you think they've over done it? This card would be very useful for 24mp HD video

    How fast is UDMA anyway?

If it's reliable and not cost prohibitive, I'd always rather have more capacity. Faster's a bonus.

Clap your hands as fast as you can. It's faster than that!

Exactly! What are they trying to do, eliminate the camera's buffer?

    Yes, so does my D300.

But what's all this UDMA 6 nonsense?

You guys are thinking in terms of still photos. In that case I spread my pictures on more than one card but for video a larger faster card is a good thing. These cards start at about $300USD I believe.

UDMA 6 is just the speed rating. I want my UDMA cards to go up to 11 ;^)

You're right. It was designed specifically for video, IMO.

The 16GB one is $300. The 64GB is $800! You could get a entry level DSLR for that kind of money!

I think UDMA 6 is marketing hype. I don't think the standards go beyond UDMA 5 which supports rates to 100 Mb/s.

The last time I looked at UDMA 16 Gig cards, they were $211. The 64 Gig at $811 is comparatively cheap...

Even if it didn't help with the shooting, I'd really appericiate the faster copy speeds if I had 64gb of data to move to the computer (USB 3.0\ Firewire 1600 anybody?) 64GB transfers can be a bit painful on my current setup.

it's like the SD and SDHC class designations. . .class 2, 4, then 6, keeps on going up. . .sadly, my D200 doesn't care for these speed designations, lol!

    Lucky D300s owners. . .

Wow, I guess they needed to leapfrog SDHC in order to make compact flash look top dog. I'd personally wait a year to a year and half to get this- it'll probably be cheap by that point.

The issue is, do you want to download 64 gigs worth of data at once? That sounds very painful, for my current setup at least, since I only have about 50 gigs or so of free space.

I have no idea how to make 64 gigs of data quickly. It's only useful if I'm on a remote island for like a month shooting TIFF files with a Hasselblad or something—like THAT's going to happen.

I take it none of you wants a 24mp camera that shoots 1080 HD then?

and I believe that's D300 in the picture, not 300s, since it still has the lever thingy to open the CF door. . .

Here's some video of my friend Chase Jarvis shooting with a D3X and the new UDMA 6 card. Pay attention to the night shots he takes with flash, crazy cool stuff! That's me on the scooter thingy at the end.

Niko - I have the kingston 8gb sd card and it's so slow, especially when I run out of memory on my sandisk ex3

as for this new udma6 I wish they produce them in 4 or 8gb capacities

Yes, that would nice. I don't think they'll do that though.

Same with the slow Sandisk cards. I wish they would create high capacity ones!

Niko - IMHO the new sandisk is priced very fair - if someone is living off the camera, than spending $800 shouldn't be a problem, as for me 64GB is a lot of photos - around 4000-4500 raw+jpgs, enough for a week trip; would I buy the 64gb version, no - would prefere to get 4 16gb as this brings the reliability to higher level, and brings down the potential risk of loosing data - and I really would love to see 4 and 8gb cards - as You can put them on a DVD without any hassle

as for kingston, it's cheap - and thats a big pro, but the con is the speed, it's sooo slow when You shoot continuous raw, apr. it needs 3-4 more time to save camera buffer than sandisk extreme III (same for sd and cf)
