I'm torn between a rangefinder style and a mirrorless camera. I firmly believe the DSLR is on its way out. It only makes sense. I would like to see a professional level mirrorless, with fullframe 36mp sensor that accepts the nikon line of lenses. (I don't expect the lens wish will happen due to mount and clearance problems). Full frame I'm sure is possilbe. Need a minimum of two lenses, a 24-120mm and 100-300mm both high pro quality with MTF charts that look like prime lenses, and non varible f-2.8. There is no need for DX format. DX to me is like manual and electronic zoom. If you want DX just crop the FX format down to your DX format its the same thing. Would also include; 10+ Frames/sec, ISO from 50 to about 128k, Optional or built-in rangefinder viewfinder not an electronic one, 3.5" flipout swing and tilt liveview LED screen with popup screen shade, built-in GPS, artifical horizon, built-in wireless file transfer, shutter speeds 6,000+, powered by store bought 9V or AA batteries or rechargeables, 1,000+ exposures per charge,Pop-up fill flash but still have the hot shoe mount, and connectors for;WiFi, USB3, Midi, pc cord, external mic, external earphones, magnesium body, weather sealed, 1080p video with no rolling shutter. Of course with a price point under $3,000. ;-) I think that would really fit the bill for street photograpers, Landscape, studio work and even weddings and still be small enough for carry around on street walks or just outings. Geez, almost sounds like a D-800 without the prism finder. Come on Nikon you are almost there already this model will blow the socks off the photo community. I wonder if Canon has been holding off on a mirrorless to come out with a killer this year? What new Nikon would you like to see?
What would you like to see from nikon for 2012-13 as a new camera?

Add interchangeable sensors (36Mp normal and 24Mp high-ISO) and I'd buy one.

D7100 or D400!
Though I guess it'll be just D5200 with articulating touch screen and D7100.

Yes a Mirriorless full frame, with the spec of a D800 and the size of an M9might be 2022 -2023
You forgot the hi ISO and 11 FPS WITH autofocus. But, the size... must have the vertical handle like a D4... When..2015
Well, now down to reality.... just the D400 will be fine...

I would like to see Nikon offer a DX sensor EV rangefinder which can use all our current DX lenses.
But, we will probably still be on waiting lists for the D600, D400 and D7200 next year!

A D400!!!!

A V2 !!! :)

I'm confused by the whole mirror less full frame thing.
I've got a V1 and I love it, but I like it because its small. Would I like a bigger sensor? Sure. But not at the cost of it requiring giant lenses. While you can argue that Nikon went to far w/ CX and should have gone w/ micro 4/3, full frame seems crazy to me. I've got a lot of great full frame lenses and I wouldn't want to carry a single one of them around w/ me on vacation.
JUST making it mirroless only saves you a little bit of space. Although I will say that I've warmed up to the electronic viewfinder concept. Optical is still better for real work, but I love being able to review my shots without having some random bystander peering over my shoulder to see the shot.

How about a DSLR, 24mm x 30mm sensor, using the fixed semi transparent fixed mirror system so as to have good autofocus, using "F" Mount lenses, and the ISO of the D4, and maybe 30MP. Also, 30 FPS. And a body shape like a D4, with two "handles" for horizontal and portrait shooting.
mmmm, or maybe just give me the D400......

Nikon should concentrate on making new lenses the next year. The bodies they have released this year are more than good enough for many years to come, so no need to produce so many bodies for a while.
What we most direly need next is a magnifying macro, a cheapo 400/5.6, 300mm f/4 VR and 200mm 2.8 primes. The 80-400mm VR needs updating and so does the 200mm micro. Nikon has the expensive and heavy end already covered, now give us alternatives in the long end like Canon does.

Dear God how many lenses has Nikon released in the last 2-3 years - 18-20?
10-24mm 3.5-4.5, 16-35mm, 18-200mm, 200-400mm, 200mm, 24-120mm f4, 24mm 1.4, 28-300mm, 300mm 2.8, 35mm 1.8, 35mm 1.4, 55-300mm, 70-200mm, 85mm f1.4, 85mm f3.5, 85mm f1.8, 50mm 1.8, 40mm 2.8... I think I'm missing another one or two.Even if I am correct there is 18 released in the last three years that is on average one release every two months.
I think what you are trying to say is "Nikon should concentrate on making new lenses that Godless wants next year." :)
Godless did you get an FX body and realize that you no longer have the reach anymore? It is much different to say you wish they would update something than claim they are not focused or concentrating on releasing lenses. They have been pumping out more lenses faster than I have ever seen them do.
Now where is the D400!!!!!

D90 size camera with an integrated battery pack added. 18-20MP ... 8fps and useable iso at 6400 dual SD cards (since that is what i own) swivel rear display in case i am shooting over my head or low down and decent video.

To be honest what I would really like is a 60% cash back on the following
D4
200- 400mm f4 ( with a built in x 1.4 converter at no extra cost )
24mm f 1.4Posted 1 year ago # -

Volume sales is one thing to make good profit with, and I bet Nikon would sell cheaper and slower 100-400mm lenses by the truckloads compared to the 200-400 f/4 or 400 f/2.8 that cost more than a decent car. Just make the damn 100-400 a thing to equal the Canon offering. The current 80-400 VR just does not cut it.

Well, here's the thing. As much as I'd be interested in new offerings, capacity is finite and I for one would be much happier if Nikon just went full-steam-ahead on the existing product line so that everybody who wanted a new body or one of those handful of lenses that never stays in stock very long could get one. That ptaent for the 17mm tilt shift and the patent for the 10mm look awfully sweet, but lets get the existing lenses, and especially the new bodies, in good supply.

I'd like to see a camera made for photographers not gear heads... oh wait, wrong forum.

Wrong website, possibly, I might say.

Same thing, it was a sarcastic comment anyway.

haha you have to love Nikon shooters they are never satisfied! I'm pretty sure the D800e is the last camera I'll ever buy, but I've been wrong before ie F100. I think Nikon might give us a rangefinder as you suggest Image Zone Photography as the market has clearly dictated that there is certainly a demand for one.

Hey, I have it......How about a way to contact NIKON with a question that they will not simply turn the question into a statement. In asking questions, it would seem so often about all I get back is the question manipulated around where it is in the form of a statement. If you ask how long the lens is, the answer is "the lens is long".
Oh well...

Hi all,
I sort of have what I want, just not the way I want it. I'd like it smaller with the same stuff, but then, I guess, it wouldn't be the same stuff.
Ah, well, Nikon has made enough on me anyway.
My best,
Mike

I would like a camera that you can pre-order, and it shows up in a reasonable amount of time without lame excuses.

How about an AF-S 300mm f2? Price it just above the 400mm 2.8, maybe? ;]
Failing that Ill take an AF-S 58mm Noct or even just a super fast AF-S 135mm f2 DC. Dip all of them in the Nano juice and charge me $5000, I don't really care, as long as they're as magical as I'd imagine they'd be. :]
