I overheard a nikon rep today here in the uk telling the assistant that the D3S(+NOT A D700S or X) will be released next, with an iso range upto...wait for it: 100200!!! Yes-one hundred thousand two hundred. Is this even possible? Anyway I thought i was hearing things so I waited until I could have a chat with the assistant and he confirmed it. What do you think-more nikon mind games?
D3S? ISO 100200 !!!

Where they laughing? I think they were BSing you. 100,200 ISO would be B&W only if true. Nikon's gonna put out waaaaay to many "S" models if this is true.(D300S,D700S?,D3S?)

I suppose that's less than a stop above 64k.
I read the thread as 100 (comma) 200 ISO and thought to myself "So What?"

Welcome to the forum bakka -Thanks Niko, I thought I would sign up even if it could be B/S, but the guy there is very genuine-I guess we'll have to wait and see. One thing that did make me smile tho were the files he had seen of the 7d! Let's just say he wasn't impressed- Quote ''My compact's files are better''. Too many pixels/too small sensor.

Well the 25600 ISO rumor was laughed at too, so it could be possible but how useful would 100200 ISO be? Perhaps with a new Sony Exmor R 12.9mp sensor?

ISO 100.200 isn't a problem. The only drawback is that the resolution has to be one pixel :D

Ultra-low light performance could change the Mega-Pixel wars. It's also my preference. My fantasy was always a film that could be pushed like Tri-X, but looked like Kodachrome 25.

My fantasies are VERY different than yours ted 8^)

Yeah, I also read ISO 100 and 200. I was thinking, big deal, my D40 does ISO 200.

OH come on Willis, like you don't have any "french maid stroking a Nikon" fantasies. ;^)

Willis, you mean:

Such high ISO would be lovely, especially when you want to shoot a lot in the night it can very well be used for hit-and-miss framing of the shot while with low ISO you'd have to wait a long time to see if the shot is well framed.

It would be ISO 102400 not 100200.
Also, I don't believe it for now unless it's HI 3 or something but its very possible.
The current HI 2 is 25600
1 more stop would make it ISO 51200
Suppose they make it 1 stop better and add HI 3, it would give us 102400
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yes your right about the 102400-I might pop back+ask him tommorrow! Meanwhile this popped up on F+M-Yes it's the D3S...

I wonder if a new firmware release could boost the current D3 to 100,000+ ISO?
Posted 3 years ago # -
So Nikon d3s with 50mm/1.4 lens will be Leica 0.95 50mm equivalent :)

A friend of mine spotted a Nikon Patent for a 35mm FX VR f1.4 lens... (I lost the link, sadly). The only reason I can think of for having VR on a 35mm lens is IF you're trying to optimize hand-held, low-light performance. I'm pondering if this lens could be the new 58mm f1.2 Noct?

FWIW, I came across an article on the Nikon Web site that says it "provided" D3 cameras + 300mm f2.8 VR lenes to sports photographers covering a big soccer match back in July. Since the D3 has been out for almost two years this doesn't make any sense -- UNLESS -- they were actually given pre-production D3S's to play with, in which case it makes total sense, especially if it really does do 14 fps and is meant to be aimed at sports photogs.

Nikon sponsors sporting events all the time. It's a form of advertising to have the logo splashed all over a major sporting event. Even though the D3 has been out for so long I doubt they would use a big event like that to "sneak" in a prototype D3S or D700S/X. Not saying it couldn't happen but the risk of someone seeing it or photographing it is to great.
When you carry a super secret prototype you really don't want to be around a huge group of people (RE:photographers) who could notice that your D3 shoots 14fps and that your using your D700 to shoot video!!!
And as for the VR equipped f/1.4 lens?! I don't see it happening. VR for low light would be more useful on a new 85mm f/1.4 then on a 35mm

Niko - do You really think it's such a big problem to put the tape over the model number or put a different name on one model so it would look like another?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Of course tape would cover up the logos and the model numbers but how could you NOT draw attention to yourself if you were using a "D3/D700" to shoot video at a stadium full of photographers and people.
Ok so what if you don't use the video feature. Then how do you explain to your fellow photographers why your "D3" sounds 5fps faster than any other D3 at the event? Or why does your "D700" have a different memory card door than everyone else's?
