The $50 is simply to check that the card is valid, and it will definitely drop off after a couple of days - and if by some remote chance it doesn't, drop me an email: Helen@adorama.com

yesterday I ordered D4 from other store and they advised me that they can deliver until end of June 2012. I will wait which will come first, my order from Adorama on 14 Feb and this new order. Whichever comes first, I will cancel the other....
I notice that no contributions have been made to this thread in a week. Does that mean that no one here has received their D4? I ordered January 6 and still have not received my two D4 cameras.
I'm actually getting nervous now. I'm scheduled to cover the Democratic National Convention in August. I'm really questioning whether the cameras will arrive in time.
BINGO! Finally got the blessed call today that a Nikon D4 has come in for me (now purchased and will be shipping to me today) but it wasn't from Adorama! No, after six months of waiting (I placed my order with them on Jan 6, 2012 at about six pm.) I occasionally get the "sorry, your order has still not been received" email message from them but that is it. I just canceled my order with Adorama so I hope that helps the next one in line get their camera faster. For what it is worth, here is my story: I was out in Salt Lake City to see family and do a shoot in Southern Utah earlier this month and I stopped into Pictureline (a wonderful local camera store chain) to purchase a small bag for my lens filters. The conversation with the very helpful salesperson went like this:
He: "I'm sorry we don't have that filter bag in stock now. The maker is quite slow in getting our orders filled.
Me: "I bet not as slow as Nikon! I've been waiting for over six months for my D4 pre-order with Adorama to be filled."
He: " Oh! we just had two D4's come in this morning!"
Me: "No sh*t! I don't suppose one of them is unspoken for???"
He: "No, they were both on order but I can check our wait list for you if you would like"
Me: "Yes please!"
He: "You would be #3 on our list if you sign up today (no deposit required)."
Me: "Sign me up! By the way, when did the person order his D4 that you will be delivering today??"
He: "Let me check.....yes, May 9th."
Me: Standing totally dumbfounded! Lesson learned: the big guys do NOT always have the advantage when new stuff comes in. Order from the little guys if you want it faster!!! (I ordered mine from Pictureline on June 3rd and it arrived two weeks later) I am also a lot more skeptical about the supposed 'gag order' on photo dealers not to reveal their wait list information! Two other photo dealers I talked with had no problem at all sharing their D4 waiting list information with me. This seems to just be a big New York store thing and there have been many plausible reasons given for this anomaly already mentioned in this forum--none of which are designed to help the customer. Sorry to go on at length here but I hope this helps someone else out there get their D4 a little faster than Adorama seems able to deliver them. I originated this thread and I hope it will continue if it helps those with orders at Adorama to get some idea of how fast the orders there are being fulfilled.
Wish you all the best in your search!
PS. The salesperson told me this morning that the Sony XGB card and the reader are still shipping with the camera at no extra cost.
@gan106... That's great news!!! I think I'm done waiting on Adorama. Not that I blame them, because it's Nikons fault. I'm just tired of waiting. I'm going to start looking at local stores now.
I just went on line at Pictureline (www.pictureline.com). They showed the D4 in stock and I ordered it. I called just to be sure and they told me they had two in stock. I should receive my D4 in 5 days. Thanks to gan106 for the lead!
"only 58 days wait" ordered from Amazon.com on April 21... coming June 18 :)
Got mine within 6 days after ordering at Best Buy on May 31 using NowInStock.net. Cancelled Adorama order from January 7 (right after midnight).
The camera is great!
I believe adorama has a problem coz when I see, even 5dm3 they don't have stock wherein you can find available anywhere. those who cancelled their orders from adorama, good for you... others, i think, it's time to look for alternatives..
Meh...I am still waiting for the D4x announcement...
:-)
I found a D4 available on the Nikon Store. It arrived last Friday. FYI it came with an XQD card and reader.
@kalog
I'm not sure where you got the idea that we haven't been receiving MK III deliveries; we have been fulfilling orders regularly.
Adorama certainly does not have a problem of our making, nor as far as we know do Nikon have a problem with Adorama........As I see it, Canon sends us units based on the numbers of back-orders we have. Nikon on the other hand, appear to send every retailer exactly the same number of units, whether or not they have 0 back-orders, 10 back-orders or 100.
As most pro or semi pro / serious photographers placed their back-orders with serious photographic retailers with competitive pricing, this is the logical explanation for Adorama (and as we believe, our biggest competitor) experiencing such bizarre supply problems.
The wait for my cameras is becoming excruciating. Received another "item still on backorder" email from Adorama today!!! Nikon makes good products, but they need to step up on the customer service and production end. I'm now looking elsewhere. Haven't cancelled my order yet, but if I find two D4's at a local store I'm jumping. Even if I have to drive 2 hours!!!

So, based on Helen's comment, it makes absolutely no good sense to order from Adorama. If joe schmore camera store receives 4 cameras with 10 backorders, and Adorama gets 4 cameras with 200 backorders, why should we order from Adorama? The odds are better with the smaller store.
Thanks to the person that posted about Best Buy. I bought it online on Thursday morning and received it today before lunch!! I was very happy to cancel my Adorama order (January 8th). Good luck!
About 35 minutes ago I noticed that Pictureline.com was showing the D4 in stock. I didn't believe it, so I called and they had 4 in stock. I ordered one, so now they have 3 left. I spoke to Katy at 1-800-748-8200. My D4 arrives on Tuesday after waiting since I placed my Adorama order on January 6th. Katy confirmed the XQD card is still included.
I just noticed the date is not showing on these posts, so I'll add to my post above that I placed my D4 order with Pictureline on Friday, June 22 at about 5pm eastern time. It will ship today and arrive on Tuesday. They had 3 left as of 40 minutes ago.
Yep... OK, that about does it. I'm cancelling my order with Adorama next week. I found a store that had a very pleasant staff and told me how many backorders they had. I'm number 3 on the list for two D4 cameras. WhooooHoooo!!!! hahaha
She even guaranteed that my cameras will ship when the next order comes in. I could have had one sent today had Adorama not had my money. So goes the saga of the big retailer (or shall I say the "overburdened retailer"). Never again will I order something like a D4 from Adorama.
I'm not kicking Adorama because I know it's not their fault. Fault lies with Nikon. Adorama is still my go to camera store for in-stock items. I just can't stake my career on answers like "we don't know when your order will be filled."
Based on my estimates, Adorama probably has so many backorders to fill it might be November before I see my D4. Nikon apparently sends Adorama shipments of 5-6 cameras (SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG). Let's say they have 100 backorders. At 20 cameras a month, that's 5 more months to wait!! If I'm generous and people cancel orders, we're still talking about 2 months at best.
I refuse to be Adorama's junkie any longer.
@Media_Images
We don't charge 'til an order actually ships, so we wouldn't have had your money....
Anyway, I just wanted to say, to you and everyone else who has found a D4 (or D800 / 800E)elsewhere, I really am genuinely happy that you did.
Believe me, as a company which is passionate about photography, we are happiest when our customers get their gear. So if you find it elsewhere before we can get it out to you, truthfully we prefer that, to you holding out 'til who-knows-when.
BTW if any of you need me to cancel an Adorama order for you because you already got one, you are most welcome to email me directly: Helen@adorama.com

Actually Helen, you would be correct in a normal situation. However, I made a business decision to have Adorama charge the card used in my D4 order. I contacted the billing department directly and they, in fact, took the money from my account.
I can assure you that Adorama has $12,000 of my money. If Adorama claims otherwise, that is an issue I am prepared to deal with accordingly.
Again, I'm not blaming Adorama. I made a business decision that made sense at the time. I will surely contact you, or someone at Adorama, to cancel my order and refund the $12,000.
I tried calling late Friday, but Adorama customer service was closed (after 5 EST). Interestingly enough, the other store (where I placed my D4 order) was open and happy to accept my business.
Un-freakin-believable!!!! I cancelled my D4 order with Adorama today. Got a call from the other store I ordered from and they already have two D4's with my name on them...... Waiting to be shipped!! No wait, no hassle!! I just placed the order last Friday!
my order from pictureline was yesterday indicated as "processing" but now, it was changed to "on hold".. I checked with my credit card but no problem at all.
I don't know it such status has something to do with the stock. When I placed an order, it mentioned "in stock". after my order, it says "backorder". That means my order has been fulfilled. but I can't understand why it is "on hold" as of this moment.
Please advise me, if you know, the contact person of pictureline for me to talk to him/her about that issue.

Call their customer service number....
FYI, robertscamera.com has them in stock right now if anyone is still waiting on one.
Buy from CametaCamera on ebay right now for list price (or call them). This does not include card/reader. I bought mine this morning and have a confirmed shipping/tracking for delivery tomorrow!!! Have waited a long time for Adorama ...
