Amazon UK appear to have cancelled all D800 orders. Emails have been received this morning stating:

    Hello,

We regret to inform you that we have been unable to source the following item:

"Nikon D800 Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)"
     http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00763MHB4

Our supplier has informed us that this item is no longer available.  This item has now been cancelled from your order #203-5127769-xxxxxxxx and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it.

We apologise for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion.  Until recently, we had still hoped to obtain this item for you.

You may visit the product detail page(s) above to see if these item(s) are available from other sellers. To view the current status and the costs associated with your order, please visit Your Account (http://www.amazon.co.uk/your-account).

    Warmest regards,

Email response from Amazon UK to a complaint:

    Hello,

Regarding your order#203-5127769-xxxxxxx for "Nikon D800 Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)",

I've checked your account and found that you may have already received an e-mail from us regarding this item. When we contacted the supplier for an update they informed us that they won't be able to source this item.

We had planned on receiving this item from our supplier. I apologise sincerely for any inconvenience caused.

As we can't supply this item, it has been cancelled from your order and you have not been charged for it. Cancelled orders no longer appear in your order history.

We rely on the suppliers for up-to-date information regarding the availability of this item and unfortunately, that's all we have to go by.

If you would still like this item it might be available from a third party seller on Amazon.co.uk Marketplace. An item being offered for sale by third-party sellers will be indicated by a blue box marked "More Buying Choices" on the product's information page.

Amazon.co.uk doesn’t price-match with other retailers (including third-party sellers who sell their items on our website). We do, however, consistently work towards maintaining competitive prices on everything we sell on our website.

Please note that in some cases our website offers lower prices via the used and new offerings available from Amazon.co.uk Marketplace sellers. For more information, please read our Marketplace Help section:

In addition to a wide selection of items, one of our aims at Amazon.co.uk is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have not met that standard. Please accept our sincere apologies.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Yep, I got one of those this morning too.
I read this as meaning that Nikon cannot supply Amazon.
So does this mean that Nikon have discontinued the D800? I doubt that. Perhaps Nikon is refusing to supply Amazon? That would seem odd. Or has Amazon finally figured out a way around all the £2399 and £2099 pre-orders? Hmm...

I wouldn't mind, but I, stupidly, cancelled my other pre-orders thinking I'll sit and wait it out with a large reliable source. I wasn't in a hurry so a couple of months or three would be ok. Now, I need to go to the back of the queue with someone else. No thank you.

Actually, I think Amazon and Nikon may have done me a favour as for the price of the D800 and 105mm VR (which I'm also waiting for and don't seem any nearer getting) I can get a Canon 5D MKII with a 24-70 and an adapter for my existing Nikon lenses to see me through until I replace them. If this is the way that they want to behave toward their loyal customers then I see no point in staying loyal anymore.

Have you called customer service to see what the case may be with "they won't be able to source this item"? Amazon has very good customer support and it's easy to get a real person on the phone or by email to find out what the case may be, instead of vague email. I realize CS may not be helpful. but it might be worth the effort. I would complain nicely and ask to be put in line where you were when they canceled your order. Good Luck

Never mind, I just the read the article on the home page about the problem with Amazon UK. It sounds like a legal, or policy issue. That sucks. Maybe it's time to take a holiday in the US, and bring an empty suitcase! Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the cancel orders, I know I would be extremely upset.

I'm waiting on a, polite :-), email to Amazon UK so we'll see what happens. I'm starting to like the look of the 5D MkII though ;) MkIII just a bit too much but the II would double my current D200 resolution and give me decent video. After waiting so long for Nikon to come up with anything approaching a worthy D200 upgrade this is just gut wrenching I must say. I've tried hard to avoid all the complaining and moaning that's been going on as I was happy to wait in line and understand the problems Nikon must be having after the year they've had, but this just takes the biscuit!

From what I have read from the article on the home page, it sounds like more of an issue with UK laws than it does with Amazon or Nikon. I realize, that regardless of who's to blame, I would be extremely frustrated with the situation as well.
