NIKON tech support.. Are we overwhelming them with D4/D800 questions?

Having read a lot of posts on issues with the D800, trap focus, and other issues, I asked NIKON tech support as to why, or how to get the D4 to trap focus. I could not get this done as the camera would release even when the lens was out of focus, yet set to release only when "in focus". I noticed they had not answered a question asked on 4/26/12, when they state the answer will come back within 24 hours. My question of 4/26 was to the actual coverage circle of the 24mm PC Nikkor. Not too difficult and should be information readily available within NIKON.

So, I am wondering if others have asked NIKON questions and received answers or not received answers. Maybe it is frustrating to have a new camera and not get it to do what I want, but for the money spent, I would think maybe some support would be available almost instantly. Ahh well....

Let me hear from others as to the responses from NIKON. Maybe they are all in the back room trying to build cameras, ha, ha, ha.

I called the Nikon mob that do the cashback today because I received a very confusing email which made me think there was a problem (IT problem so she said) and I got a response that was only just short of downright hostile. I also sent a technical question to support about the D7000 so we will see how long it takes for them to answer.

Don't know a thing, but never heard anyone use the term "to trap focus." Focus lock?

Hi

My first post, been lurkin for a while.

Tao, Trap Focus was a pentax innovation and terminology I believe. So, you set the focus and when the (say) bird comes into focus the shutter fires. http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-camera-articles/51036-how-use-trap-focus-catch-focus.html

Just 1 remark, often overlooked : did you set up for "single Point AF" ? otherwise every fly that gets in your VOF at the edge can trigger the trap ....

apart from that, your lens needs to be on AF/M, rather than just M , since the camera still needs to use its AF cirquitry ..

@DutchNikon Yup, tried and double checked all these settings. Still it would simply fire away in or out of focus. Now, there are situations, during shooting when set so as to "trap focus" which does prevent a shot until the subject is in focus. But no real way to push the button, bring the subject into the frame, and have the camera fire once the subject gets into focus, unless one is using continuous servo mode. So, I asked NIKON ....

Well, NIKON tech has informed me the camera will not do that. No "trap focus". Instead the suggestion was a remote for $285. However, the discussion was only academic as I never use trap focus. Using continuous servo, nine points, the system follows what I want and there is really no need to have the trap focus. Of course if one has a remote wan wants to shoot an object which enters the field, well, I guess I am out of luck unless I rig a trigger system which utilizes infrared or other sensing device. Oh, well...

Actually, as I remember, the trap focus idea was back when we had a slower FPS, and we had a scene set up and then an object would come into the action and be captured. But with the high FPS, maybe it is not necessary.
