    It looks like the canon pro photographer who mentioned he had info on a new Nikon that made him want to sell his canon stuff was just talking about the "leaked" Nikon road map we've all seen. He posted on his blog again and mentions a "list" with Nikon releases for next year. Or in his words he says, "I have in my hand a list of all the new Nikon gear that is going to be released over the next year."

    He also mentions the "store" that gave him the list and how he needs to ask "them" for permission to post it. I don't think you'd want to yell out loud who your source was with "super secret" info. I'm not going to link to his blog since I kind of get the feeling now that he's just trying to bring in traffic to his website OR he's just now finding out about the "leaked" Nikon road map.

    Don't mean to crush everyone's hopes, I just thought I'd share :^(

    The original story was posted on the main page of NR a few weeks back regarding a D700X rumor.

    So yeah, the Nikon Roadmap was fake? Not really unexpected news.

    Yes, it's just that this canon pro got everyone's attention thinking he knew something about, or was even testing out, the D700X.

    I always thought that story was dubious. When it first hit the blogosphere, it sounded as if he had a prototype camera. Why would Nikon give a prototype to 1. a cannon shooter that was 2. Not under strict NDA.

    As for the list? Well even if the road-map were true, was there anything on it that would have made you switch systems in advance of using the actual product? Not me.

    Actually Willis "canon shooters" are recruited to test Nikon stuff all the time. If canon came up to me and said, "here's the top secret 1DmkIV and we'd like you to test it out for a few weeks for free, are you interested?" I'm so sure I'm going to say, "NO! I'm a Nikon user and I can't"

    However, the "pro" canon shooter has already admitted he was just very upset at canon for something they did to him and he wrote about having an unreleased new Nikon and selling his gear to get back at them.

    Well, neither of them are calling me, so there's that. But Nikon isn't going to hand out unreleased test gear to anyone without having them first sign a NDA. So anyone who posts un-anonymously that they are privy to the new hotness is probably making it up.

    Nobody finds out about this stuff before Admin :)

    If the roadmap wasn't fake, Nikon has then changed all of it's releases to make it appear so. To date, none of the new, unexpected stuff mentioned on the roadmap has happened. I think it got the D300s correct, but it was all but released when the roadmap was leaked.

    Well here's what the leaked roadmap says is going to happen on October 15th.

    October 15 presentation:

    * Nikon D700x with 24.5 MP, Full-HD movie 24 fps, improved AF and self timer + mirror-up
    * AF-S Nikkor 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR (The FX-dream-walk-around-lens?)
    * AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II (What everybody waited for! 82 mm filter, 1530 g)
    * AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G
    * AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G (No VR?)

    And it "guessed" the wrong date as August 4 for the D300S,D3000 announcement (was actually July 30th, 2009)

    * Nikon D3000
    * Nikon D300s with Full-HD movie 24 fps, improved AF, self timer + mirror-up, cf + sd-slot
    * AF-S DX 17-65/3.2-4 G VR with 72(!) mm filter

    No 17-65mm lens announced and the specs for the D3000 were totally wrong. The roadmap makes no mention of a D3S so......

    Then i guess NikoDoby there's no such thing as a D700X/D700S isn't it?

    And i guess if there is such thing as a "S" series its gonna be an upgrade again, with video mode, 2 slat cards but the same MP's,

    MMMmmmm..........

    Hey Gabby
    Well I wouldn't put too much faith into the roadmap but we will see what happens in October. A new "S" model D700 makes more sense to me than a D3S. At 14fps a D3H seems more logical. Nikon's "H" has always been the high speed model. The D2H never really had a replacement and I know a lot of photographers who would love to have a new version, even if it came with video.

    Yeah a new version would make a lot of Nikonians happy................

    But i am still hoping for a new release within the end of the year or the first quarter of the year 2010. D400? what do you think Niko? Since D300S is really not a replacement for D300, and D300 is phase out alreay right?

    D700 on the other hand was realease last 2008, so lets see on the early 2010.And i guess your right Niko a D700S make more sense, but again like i said its gonna be an upgrade.

    The road map is not really a perfect calendar lists for nikon equipments, but atleast its telling the whole wide world that they "nikon?" has plans to release new units in the next coming months.

    I think,

    According to a very reliable source, this year there will be no Nikon D700s or Nikon D700x.
    What Nikon plans to do is to launch totally new D800 to replace the existing D700.
    There are several features available in Nikon D800:

    1) Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
    2) High resolution 24.5 MP.
    3) High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
    4) 51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)

    Basically Nikon D800 will compete head to head against Canon's EOS 5D MkII.
    Most likely Nikon will launch the brand new D800 before Christmas end of this year.
