As You can see, there's a rumor that we gonna see a D600 sometime in the summer.
If I could bet, I would say:
16-24Mpx, 6fps (8 with grip), smaller body factor than d800, 96% viewfinder coverage.

as for the double SD card slot... I don't think it's a bad idea, for my d800 I just got 4 16gb sd sandisk extreme 45 MB/s and I've paid for those 4 sd's pretty much the same as I would pay for CF.

the great thing about the the F was a 100% viewfinder. so why, 50years, later are they producing a 96% viewfinder

The D700 wasn't a full viewfinder. It's cheaper to make.

    What's not to like? :D

The DX people will get their top range camera, the FX people get their low end camera.

One bad thing is that there seems to be a new battery grip.

And for those not in NPS, you'll still have to pay an arm and a leg to secure one on launch date.

    Hi all,

If it is real, just saying, and it is a D700 Jr, wondering if it would have similar video specifications to D800 (to include a audio in/out), and a price tag under $2000?

    I'd be in line.

And to that NPS thang, if you let your member lapse, say 20 or so years ago, are you still on the list? ;-)

    My best,

    Mike

From the V1/J1 to the D4 and D800 and now with the D600. It seems that the nice people at Nikon have been very busy lately.

    Wonderful! Wonderful!

Now the D400 is sure to be DX and not an entry level FX.

This is kinda what I'm looking / hoping for... D800 would be excellent, but I don't need 36 megapixels, and if I could get improved low light performance in a new, video-capable body that would be great. Hopefully it'll be a 100% viewfinder, otherwise I'm a little less motivated. I like the double SD card slot, seeing as I have a D7000 now. We'll see what this turns into. If I don't like it (really hoping for a 100% viewfinder), I'll just go for a D800 anyways.

D800 also has the advantage of using the EN-EL15 battery, but it'd be so very awesome if this D600 could use the battery grip from the D7000.

Sounds like an FX version of the D7000. Thats good.. There is still hope for a D400 DX or maybe we should be calling that the D9000.

Anybody planning to cancel their D800 pre-order and wait for the D600?

Not really sure about the idea of an FX sensor in a D7000 body tbh - particularly the idea of dual SD card slots , and anything less than 100% viewfinder. Especially if they're going to be pricing it at $2000 or so. Seems a bit odd to me to be paying that much dosh for a compromised body

A D3s sensor in the same body and AF as the D800 at 8fps = win however ;)

This is definitely going to be a less robust and rugged body than the D700/800. This is a given, seeing as it uses Dual SD card slots. So this means it is most definitely a lower end Full Frame, NOT the "true" D700 successor as many want to think now.

Also I'm expecting pricing to be around where D300/D300S was/is. Nikon wants to make waves with the pricing for a Full Frame DSLR ahead of Canon. This makes sense as a business.

I think it will be in your range of 16-24mp I think it will have the same body as the d800, or have the d4 body and an fps rate 0f 8 and 10 with grip

I worry that it will be "crippled" in a feature that I would like to have in my first Full Frame camera. So far it looks OK. If I wanted to do HDR I'll do my own exposure mixing with software. I'd prefer another name other than D600 because that sounds like a predecessor to the D700 instead of a next generation camera.

If it's under $2,000 I'll buy but I doubt it will be.

Could this be an entry level FF D600 'kit' taking shape?

It's an interesting rumor, but I'm not so sure that I'm ready to buy into it yet. Already, Nikon has supply problems with making enough D4's and D800's, adding a cheaper, potentially more popular FX camera would really just make that worse. Also, $2000 seems to be cutting it close to what you can sell an FX camera for at release. Unless they manage to cut down the manufacturing and parts costs a lot, I'm not sure this is plausible. And charging a more realistic price $2500+ really brings it too close to D800 territory to market it as an affordable FX.

Still, though, I think this would be a great camera to the line-up: it adds a low end FX which works well with the 28-300 and 24-120 lenses, and would add a smaller, lighter and cheaper FX body, which would be really nice to have. As much as I'm not yet convinced this is real, I'm more than ready to eat my words and buy one if this really does get announced this year.

What do we think the crop mode would be if FF mode is 24mp? Maybe 12mp, or more?

The price has to be right around $2K any higher and people will just get a D800. Much lower it would pull sale from our much anticipated D400.
