I push F5 on my Macbook Pro and get a little sunrise on the screen....I may be tin the category of that old Microsoft joke about the person who called the help line when the power was off to ask why the monitor was not working.... If you do not know the joke, asks someone....
But, everything is working on my computer as far as I can tell. I don't think it logs em out if I go to the blog and then return, but I may just try it.
Keeps me logged on in both Safari and Firefox....

I've had an issue where I log in, then try to post in a thread and it seemingly logs me out. But if I refresh the browser, then it comes back with the reply window, and I'm still logged in.
I've had this happen on three different Macs with OSX 10.6.8 and had the same result in Firefox and Safari.

Yes, this is what I was describing, too, rburgett. It's good to know I'm not as crazy as msmoto thinks I am.

Hi, guys... I wonder if this is a problem... I write a post, maybe take 5 minutes to do this as I might be doing research or something, editing, etc., and I click on the "send post". The page appears initially as if i were not logged in. That is no area to "Reply" and my post is not seen. Then using the "back arrow" go back and my post is in the composing area, so I hit the "send post" again. now, the post comes up twice. At this point, i usually go back and edit the second post by simply putting "Oops" in. Is this a problem with the updated version or am I doing something incorrect? I am running Safari Version 5.1.5 (7534.55.3).
Please let me know if I am screwing up as this is entirely possible. Thanks
Oh, this is not always a consistent problem.

Pretty much the same issue as rburgett on IE9 but Chrome seems to work fine... and this is from behind the firewall at.... um... work :-} (OK, OK.. I'm on break right now!!!)

@msmoto
You're not doing anything wrong. This is also another effect of the same problem jonnyapple is describing. And you're right it doesn't always happen. It's been a long time since it happened to me too but I haven't been as active here lately as I used to be so who knows.
Btw Peter, I've been having that same problem ever since I remember having an account here. It's not unique to the new version of the forum.

I'd say whatever you (Admin) did, it solved most of the problem. I'm no longer thrown off-log when I go to another website or close Mozilla. Anytime I return to NR , I am automatically logged in.
However, if I log myself out, then the only way back in is by F5.
I know refreshing the page and F5'ing is not the same. I've read somewhere that F5 gives you the very latest version of the page where as refreshing may be showing it with a time lag ( don't ask me why/how) . Maybe the "log in" command is also staying some what limited in that manner.

I am on a PC using IE 9. On some forum topics, when I click to the most recent page of postings, it shows me a logged off. When I log back on it redirects me to the first page of the posted topic. When I click the last page I find again I am logged off. This effectively prevents me from commenting on some posts. :( Obviously I was successful on this topic so the problem is apparently intermittent?

I have the same issue with firefox, however after logging in when you navigate to the last page refresh it (hit F5 key) and you will find that you are logged in and at last page, and are able to post your reply.
Hope this helps.

Noted one problem:
"Photography Quotes" shown under Latest Discussions indicates 19 hours ago a post was up. Yet this is what I get when I click on it
http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=875
and I see on this page 2 years ago was the last post???

Oops, again, wrong place....

With out the "report" selection (never worked for me either way) can there be a "report" spammer list tagged to the top or something like that? If you don't know who the Admins are, it is really difficult to find where contact you guys at. (Good design actually) Something like that may also keep the e-mails out of your box as well.

Hi,
Chrome didn't work until I cleared cookies and data.
My best,

I just noticed that here appears to be more empty black space under each post.
May or may not be an issue though, it might be because I didn't notice it before.

Maybe an issue, but on Safari, Mac 10.7.3 I have all of a sudden started having trouble with PAD and staying logged in. Was OK this morning, now it wants to log me out after I log in and go to the current page. And if I am on the current page and log in, it takes me to page 1. I will reset Safari if need be, see if there is an issue on my end.
Firefox 11.0 works fine.

msmoto, to get "f5" on the mac you actually need fn-F5

msmoto, to get "f5" on the mac you actually need fn-F5Well, nothing works. I am logged in, everything works until I go to PAD. Then it gives me Day 1. I click on the latest day and it logs me out, asks me to log in. So, I log in, and back to page 1. Then to the current page and once again, I am logged out, and asked to log in to post. This even when I have checked remember me. It does remember my name and password, but unfortunately keeps bumping me out.
Could his be something as a result of the timing of posts to PAD? Possibly within a 24 hour period. I post only one per day, but sometimes these are early in the morning, at other times later in the day.
And, what actually does F5 do?

OK, in case this happens to someone else.... I was logged in on page 1. At the bottom, I found a "REPLY" link, so clicked on this and amazing as it may seem.... not only opened up a reply box, but took me to the current page.
I must have been wrong when I was yelling, "I have fallen and can't get up."
Still do nat have a clue what F5 does.....

Just a suggestion but is it possible to implement functionality to down rank comments into oblivion? I think it could clean up the comments a little bit specially in the main blog.

Sounds to me like you were logged in but then the system logged you out (not sure if this is a problem or intended) so when you wanted to post (reply), you were automatically transferred to the log-in dialogue BUT when you logged back in (and this happens to me too), you were taken to the first page of the thread you were trying to post in not the last (where you were).
Happens to me too.
F5 simply asks for a fresh copy of the page as opposed to a refresh. It is possible for you to go round in circles trying to post/logging in/being unable to post/logging in again add infinitum until you F5 - at least that is my experience with this new software.
HTH msmoto.
@iris chrome - in somebodies opinion all comments are worthy of that and no doubt it would stop the forum dead in it's tracks. People just have to remember there are thousands of others viewing on here too so not get all their demons out on here as it devalues the reputation of this place - just live and let live.
People always use +1 when they agree so why not use -1 if you don't!

This is possible on some other forum software (like that used on Engadget for example), but I don't know if it is here? For sure, the level of adolescent language and approach used by some on the main blog especially is a little bit out of hand. Perhaps the ability to generate a new user name to post under with no verification (and able to post using a fake email address) is no longer a good way to go?

What does this mean? Remember, I grew up before television...If a comment gets enough of these negative "votes", it gets made into a semi-visible one line heading, so you cant see it without clicking on it, and if it gets more (these levels are usually selectable by the admin), then it goes away.
I am a moderator on a forum that uses this feature (not photo related), and it does work, but the software is totally different from here and would not be an easy migration if our staff here chose it. There is a kind of forum system used on the Egadget blog (just add .com to that name) and it also works, but to use it is expensive, corporate, blah...

OK, maybe I need to explain... at age 70, one can use the "fallen and can't get up" meaning basically, I was not able to figure out the problem and maybe hollered "wolf" too soon. This was a self deprecating comment. Not meant to be "rank" but simply poking fun at myself and my lack of technical skills with the computer stuff.
Hope this helps.
