That looks weird...
What memory card are you using ?
And what video format is it ?
Is it compressed/modified or straight out of the camera ?
Does it happen again if you play the same passage over and over again (slower computers sometimes have trouble playing full HD videos)
You should really try with an other card if it's not a professional high speed already...
And if it continues, drop by Nikon Service center

I know, it looks looks wired.
I was filming at 720p 50fps (high quality) and ISO100. I used a 16-35mm Nikon Lens at 16mm. Furthermore i used a 16 gig SD-Card (SanDisk Class 10, 45Mbit/s). All high quality Products! And im using a high-end PC. So i don't see any Problems in my Equipment/Post-Process.
But i only saw it on one video, the ones are o.k.
Did you try using a different video player like VLC? The artifact may only be limited to Quicktime.

I did not pre-order right away thinking it was a good idea to wait the initial bug shakeouts. It took what a year for the D7000 to stabilize? I hope the D800 will not take that long.
Yea I didn't preorder either and I got really lucky to get mine at an airport shop (for a really really good price) and when the 10+ shops I contacted didn't have any stock
It's such a great camera !
As for the movie issue I don't know what is causing it but it sure looks like a bad compression artifact...

Hi got mine recently also. Started taking pictures in studio on tripod, without changing lenses, black round sharp oily spots came up, after the 10th picture, first 1, than 2, suddenly 4. I cleaned the sensor with cotton ear picks, but while the new session, it started again. Have a new black spot in the center. Blowing and shaking does't remove them. Looks like a manufactoring problem ... :(
It's a shame on an expensive body like that. I just changed from Canon to Nikon because of the big resolution, but now I am disappointed.

I can also see the same dots on the back of my 14-24mm 2.8G (purchased for the D800) my 50mm 1.4 (also purchased with the camera) and my 60mm micro.
I can not remove these with a blower either !
Please help me and advise me on how you will help me for this.
I googled this and found a few disturbing posts.

Sounds like some kind of insect has found its way into your camera.. ??
Oil used for camera's is mostly not white as far as i am aware....
Ow.., shiny is not good at all, shiny could be metal particles possibly from the lens mount not beying clean enough after fabrication. If you would try to clean metal particles with a schwab, you might end up with scratches. Best way to recognise those is using a sensor loupe ( or any other magnifienin glass...)
Best thing to do if its metal particles then is visit a Nikon Dealership or service center and have them clean it...
Maybe also cleaning very very carefully with an "Arctic Butterfly"or similar could save the day...
BTW Sometimes it helps to activate the cleaning mechanism with the lens mount turned down, but this woulsd still not remove them from the camera since they would end up at the back of the mirror, and get spread in the camera again...

Oil can be cleaned with sensor schwabs & and cleaning liquid..
Look voor "Visible Dust" ( or another brand ) on one of the internet suppliers websites ( cannot place links here..) .
But if its oil, then i think its a warranty issue too, cause ther should be no oil spreading in the camera.... so if cleaned and it returns then you still need to connect to Nikon...

Good plan, do not forget to bring your original proof of purchase, that's a requirement for international warranty claims...
It looks like oil. And also reading through your description "Took 5 shots and then it appeared", it also sounds like oil. The D800 shutter travels vertically for each release. May be this one had a tiny spec more oil on the shutter lube and it kind of splashed into the sensor - probably not on the sensor, on the filter assembly. The strategic position of the dots also seem to indicate that is where the splash will go when the shutter is released. Blower will be of no use if it is oil. My suggestion, send it in and let Nikon take a look. Good luck!

It is definitely an issue with these cameras...
Unfortunately for me, I don't live near a Nikon center
