Hi, anyone know will there be any 24mm f1.8G available soon? f1.4G is out of my budget. Nikon seems to make f1.8g after they release 1.4G(eg, 50mm 1.4g, 85mm 1.4g).
Should I wait for 24mm f1.8g or go for 24mm f2.8d ?

Who knows on the 1.8 - maybe in a week, a year, 3 years... There was a patent for one a while ago - but that never means much.
The 24mm 2.8 is a good lens. You need a body for the screw (AFD) drive for AF.

Sigma has a 24mm f/1.8, but it did not feel good at all when I tested one out. The focus ring may have been a war crime.

I just bought a 85mm f1.8G, it is a really great lens.
My next lens could be 24-120 f4. If Nikon come out with 24mm f1.8g, then I will go with 24mm instead of 24-120 zoom.-----------------------------

I like the 24mm length on my D90. I would probably look to pick up a 1.8 version if they make one. I have a 28 2.8 however would like a little wider and faster.

i didnt like the 24mm f2.8d.. was never really that sharp for me.. maybe it was my copy.. i would love a 24mm f1.8g for say 500 bucks would be great..

I got the 85mm f1.8g yesterday. I shoot in raw, I normally use LR to adjust my photo. with this new 85mm f1.8g, I no longer need to adjust the saturation. All pictures seem more saturated than my 35mm f1.8g lens. The bokeh of this lens is really amazing.

A 24mm 2.8g would be more realistic. Modern coatings combined with a full plasticy construction for 350usd :D 24mm 1.8g would still be at 1000$-ish and even if it costed 1000$ ppl would still buy it over the 1.4g, so unlikely they'd do that.

Thanks, I just went to buy a 24mm f2.8 today. It is very sharp.

Sigma 20/1.8 would have been a good choice for DX as well. Sharper than most f/2.8 primes at f/2.8 and I have a few keepers shot at f/2.0 as well.

I will prefer a fx lens because I will switch to FX camera in 2-3 years time.

Wait for the 20mm F/1.8 G... for FX.... hope they do this...

Would LOVE an affordable 24mm f1.8 but Nikon won't want to hurt sales of their 24mm f1.4 Wonder how many of those they sell?! A 1.8 would sell great for anything up to £800 max. Anything more & I'd stick with the f2.8

I have not seen a 24mm f/1.8 patent from Nikon - I kept searching for it but I believe there was an updated patent for a 24mm f/2. Not sure if that was DX or FX. That would be more likely as they have made one with those specs before.
It will be interesting to see if Nikon ever updates it's 2.8 primes. I love primes but I find the 1.4s too large for my taste. I prefer the smaller primes. With wide angles, few seem to understand how much more leeway one has to shoot at lower stops and it is not difficult to shoot at 1/15th on a 24mm at F4.

People might think this is coming due to the patent for the 28mm F1.8... or they mixed the two up. I could see Nikon updating the 24mm F2.8D, so maybe a 24mm F2G?

I think they should update the 20mm instead.

+1 Godless but at the same time I find the 20mm f/2.8 very useful as-is... useful enough that Idon't lust after the 24mm f/1.4 at its current pricepoint. Tough to know what to do.

I'd be happy with a simple update, put in an AF-S motor, improve the optical formula and keep it F2.8. If they made the 20mm any faster the price will be too high. The current model is already over $600 (which is why I don't have one), so an AF-S model would likely be $700+.

28mm 1.8: All way to high cost and too big for me.
I have never understood the 28mm either - too close to the 35mm and not wide enough for anything interesting. On DX it is 42mm - I never understood the 40mm focal length lenses either. Every time I see a photo from a 40mm, I just want to step in the photo and lunge to get closer.I just really want a 35mm & a 24mm equiv for DX (Made for FX or not I don't care)- 2.8 is fine. And for peet's sake, keep it under $600. Is that too much to ask?
Part of the reason I bought a Fuji X100 is to get the 35mm equiv without having a softball sized lens on an already large camera (D300.) And it was cheaper than the 1.4! Best decision I have made in a long time. 50mm or the 35mm on my D300 with the X100 and I'm set for the a day.
