Those of you that provide a hard product to a customer, what is the best way to go for quality? Laser, Inkjet, What type of paper?? Pros/Cons.....

I'll be going to digital for the first time (whenever this D800 arrives) and I was wondering what is normally used out there when delivering a product to a customer? When I think of inkjet, I think of my printer at home and when water is accidently dropped on the print, the ink runs down the paper. Never had these issues when developing film the old fashioned way :)

Hi Havoc, laser printers are fine for producing draft contact sheets and other rough colour work, but I'm not aware of any machine that comes anywhere near an ink jet for fine picture quality. Most people who have an ink jet for professional use, buy an A3+ or larger sized machine. One of the best A3 machines out there is the Epson R3000 at around £700. Unless you plan on printing a lot of your work, I would suggest in spite of the advantages of DIY, that it is highly likely to be more cost effective to have a local print store produce your work for you. I agree that ink jet coppies when printing on plain paper, can run when wet, I have never had this issue when printing on heavy glossy photo paper.

The modern inkjet printers are awesome but will always be water soluble so prints do need to be protected. I use an Epson 3880 for prints up to 17x22 inches on Epson Signature Worthy papers for my fine art digital painting and photography. In my experience only the Epson and Canon printers produce the quality of prints for customers to buy if you do the printing yourself. Visit their respective websites for reviews by the professionals, like Art Wolf.
