Oh it's true already:

Can't quite believe it but I placed £200 deposit on a D800 at a local store last night! Then Nikon hike the price up today! Many online retailers are already showing the D800 at £2,600! Really don't think this is on but guess there's nothing to stop Nikon. Demand is crazy! Fingers crossed my local store will honour their price. I have a written receipt with the lower price on & they verbally assured me that price would be honoured so I'm assuming it will be. I'm around 55th on their list though and don't expect my camera before early June at the earliest. Just so glad I got my order in at the last second!
U.S. is next.
This must be a first - where the early adopters are getting the new model cheaper than the laggards!
Oh well, guess there is no harm in waiting now.
I was at a photography event here in Western Australia (*LINK REMOVED*) and the Nikon Australia crew were here so I asked them if they knew anything about this price rise issue and they were clearly taken by surprise...they were actually shocked and insisted that this would not happen here. I will watch this with interest because I was going to order a D800 on Monday.
Where in the world is the D800 the cheapest? India? Australia?
Depends on your definition of cheap - if you get a problem you will not find it so cheap as you will not have any warranty AT ALL!
Didn't you ask the same question elsewhere?
Maybe the word "cheap" is why folks buy the P & S cameras.....?
Quite a few used D800 bodies are turning up where I live and on Ebay as well. That might be an option for you? Ebay new prices are also going to stay cheaper probably as well...
