This is a NIKON CORPORATION Issue, not an issue with the resellers or national chain stores. Why don't we just email NIKON asking them to publically explain the problems rather then just posting on forums, belly aching or complaining about it, go to the source as ask them the questions. If enough email, they will have to answer.

I'm in the Amazon shipping window of April 16 - 30th (ordered early Feb 7). I half expected a shipping update from Amazon today, but so far nothing.

I don't think Nikon is doing themselves any favors w/ the lack of transparency. Right now, they are incentivizing people to go place pre-orders at every store they can, I don't think they have any clue what the real demand for this camera is, but I suppose that is also a function of how the retailers set up their pre-order process.

I ordered from Adorama around March 1. Just got email stating that item is still on backorder....I would have preferred no email at all, honestly.

Got my hopes up when I saw Adorama in my mail. Maybe my camera will arrive before Christmas!

I ordered early from Adorama. Keep getting e-mails that the D800 is on backorder. They say they don't know when they will receive shipments or how many will be in a shipment. Just have to wait. Sooner or later it will be here.

I thought Adorama was an exclusive dealer? heck, I would have ordered from Best Buy or 1,000 other places had I known that BS.

FWIW I tried to call B&H yesterday around 1PM EDT and got "busied out" (fast busy tone) three times... never did get thru. Probably wishful thinking but in the event they actually have a D800 this week to ship to me, I have delivery issues I need to address...guess I'll have to email 'em.

I just heard that Nikon is about to dump 62,000 D800 units into the US market, so that they can capitalize on all the preorders. Nikon knows that many photographers have double and triple ordered their cameras in the hopes of getting one and cancelling the others.

So be careful guys or you could end up with two or three D800's...

Three good things will come from this...
    1) Nikon's stock will soar.
    2) Everyone will have their new D800 camera.
    3) There will be new D800's on Craigslist for $2500, so that ppl can make their $9,000 CC bill.

It's going to be a great month!!!

LOL, I must be the only person on this forum who doesn't have industry sources. Hopefully my D800 is on a boat somewhere.

To get the warranty I would pay the $3k price, but that's me.

And may I ask the source of this information regarding 62,000 D800 camera bodies?

I was at a club meeting last night and was talking with a NPS member who heard it from a rep. While I can't say that I'd bet the ranch on this tid bit of information, but I thought that it was interesting enough to post. I'm not cancelling either of my two pre-orders, I'll take my chances. And yes 62,000 bodies is a lot but they have been in production since they got things back together after the floods in January.

^^^ Funny thing, Same time yesterday I was at my street corner 7-11 buying some asprin and condoms and the 711 guy told me the very same thing, so i cancelled all my pre-orders.

And now am #1 on 711's pre-order waiting list.

that doesnt seem make any sense for me . if they have 62000 bodies. why they keep it until now ? why not they send them out when they have 10000 ? they dont want cash ? or they have free storage ?
I will wait for 3 more weeks. If i still not getting my D800. I guess i need to start shop for a used 7000 for this summer.

Yeah, at $3K per pop those 62,000 D800 bodies are worth a cool $186,000,000. Unlikely that anyone would sit on that inventory for long. Plus, 62,000 is equivalent to more than two months of peak production at Nikon's D800 factory. But I would like to encourage everyone to cancel their pre-orders so I can get mine sooner!

Got an email message this evening from my new friend at Adorama, Elyssa, indicating that my cc has expired since I placed my order! Well imagine that.

The note tried to dissuade me from reading anything positive into the message (Although this item(s) is backordered we still need valid payment information to keep this order open so it can ship when we get it in.). But I'm going to be optimistic nevertheless. Seems like this would be the last thing a vendor would check before completing an order. Am sharing this in the hopes that it is good news.

After Scott Bourne's tweet, peeing all over the D800, I did question my pre-order decision (for a minute, but then I got over it).

I got same email about cancelled Credit card from Adorama about 2 weeks after preorder. It took 8-9 days to get my new CC, and I called Adorama back. My original order date has not changed....and the damn D800 is still backordered!!

I contacted AAFES today (April 18th) about my 6 Mar D800 order. Since AAFES' website removed the "mid April delivery" statement this week from the D800 page, I wanted to know if my order status had changed. By the way, AAFES doesn't stock this item, it ships directly from Nikon. The customer service rep notified me that their latest information from Nikon is a May 5th shipment date.

It doesn't help matters that Amazon spam's me at least once a day either asking about my experience w/ some other order, or offering me something. Every time I see an email from them, I think "This is it", but it isn't.

I ordered from amazon on Feb. 6 and got delivery date of March 21. A few days ago I got a massage that delivery will be April 13 - 30.
Today I have seen that the status has changed to "Shipping soon" with delivery on March 26.

Same here! Thanks amazon for recommending a low end Nikon point and shoot.

Has anybody got delivery of the 800 this week? I have heard of no deliveries except for a few here and there, smaller shops, but no big quantity yet?

    Anybody?

Looks like all those rumors of stores getting stock early this week were wrong. I'm hoping BB gets stock soon so I can cancel my preorder. I turned in a broken D90 and now have $1200 store credit at BB.

Today B&H sent their same old "cut & paste" backorder status email, seems like even they are losing hope given the incremental days between each email. (initially it was every 9 days)

    March 1
    March 9
    March 18
    March 26
    April 19
