Anyone getting ship notifications from BH or Adorama? This is getting ridiculous.

B&H is closed until April 15th so I wouldn't expect any messages or shipping information until at least after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 15th. According to Nikon's USA website Adorma does not currently have any product although I question the reliability of that information because other retailers are shown having the D800 in stock but they don't. I am guessing here but I think it will probably take 3 or 4 months of full production to meet the initial demand. Patience is a virtue but I am not very virtuous! ;)

I will be attending NAB next week in Las Vegas where B&H always has a presence. I plan on showing up at their booth with my order in hand, which was done at 3 AM EST Feb. 7. I am happy to continue shooting with my d7000, which I thought was impossible to get in Oct. of 2010 until I walked into a local Best Buy on the morning they received 3 kits not spoken for. Not so this time with D800 at any Best Buys in So. Cal. at the moment.
I used PayPal, so the cash went to B&H with my pre-order. By the way, I sold my D700 last September to help finance the D800. I would have been happy for many years with it save for the lack of video recording. Travel photography is my venue and mixing stills and clips acquired with a single tool is my dream come true. I used to carry around a full broadcast video rig and my nikons.

    Jackarm:

Do report back with how B&H insults your intelligence with boilerplate answers to your pre-order queries.

I gave up on getting decent answers from them after their second cut & paste email to me.

Ditto. I emailed and called B&H and got nothing but the runaround. I am still waiting although I finally also ordered from Amazon and have my name on several lists locally. I am optimistic (?) I may have a camera by June. If not I guess I can sit here and stare at all my lenses and other goodies that were purchased to go along with the D800 that I haven't got yet.

Guys talked to adarama last Friday and they said they are waiting to get 1000 to 3000 d800's in and that date will be 04-16-2912. Shipping will start next week. He said Nikon does this to get the hipe up....

Well, my RRS L bracket for the D800 showed up yesterday but I still have no camera. I also pre-ordered Day 1 (10AM..) from B&H and have had no luck with any estimate of delivery. Getting desperate since I have a trip to Costa Rica planned (for 2 years), departing in 10 days, and had hoped to have an 800 to take along. Local, statewide and on line searches have proven fruitless so I guess it'll just be me and the D7000 down in the cloud forests! Love my 7000, but really wanted a 2nd body for the trip. Thinking of renting a spare 7000 but not real comfortable with that.

Agreed with the hype bit, a local reputed dealer said something similar yesterday.

"Nikon does this on purpose, to keep the hype up and maintain a running production line evenly all year round. If they don't do that once the initial tsunami of orders is dealt with the very expensive production line has still to be kept alive until the next big model is introduced, but would remain mostly idle due to dwindled demand."

They also had new Canon and Fuji in stock, and offered to sell me that crap instead.

I got verification from my Camera Store the next batch of 800's will be released on 15 or 16 April, along with a large shipment of lenses and other items that have been out of stock for some time. They just got off the telephone with their Nikon Rep this afternoon, and have another call set up for Thursday for verification.

Hmm, I wonder if this means Best Buy will be getting more stock around the same time. I paid $50 for two day shipping on my Adorama preorder, but it seems like a waste now that it has been delayed so long.

So rumor has it they will release the E model on time and why not. It too becomes an over pre-ordered model rather than an undelivered one. The hiatuses in shipping product from the release of the non-E model till now allowed another week of E model production. After release it's back to the 9 non to 1 E ratio.

On looking at their financial reports and it seems they only ship about 20% to the USA market. Nikon produces no more than 2500 D800's per week. Our USA vendors then receive about 500 of these (more or less).

Of course Nikon might attempt to go to double shifts and approach the 30K units per month they suggested in an early interview. But the typical "just in time parts lag" prevents expanding production to this level for some time (assuming they tried it).
(Again this is just a rumor, adjust ratio for local region percentage as required along with demand for E's or non!)

Therefore it is certain that E lovers see an initial push upon release. And everyone (non (hey, that's me) and E) gets a camera on or before 2013. (Just like Amazon tried to tell us! Who says a computer can't rumor!)

I do expect to see my BandH order soon. If not, I'll start prowling BestBuys again. eBay is making real money on these, too bad my client will only pay list...

Yesterday (April 10) I received an update from AAFES on my D800 pre-order. Nikon USA tells AAFES "as of today the Backorder date is still April 15th. Shortly after this date your item should ship out to you." That is a cut/paste from the email.

Based on this I would hope that dealers/customers will get some D800's starting some time next week. It will be interesting to see how many are released and to whom.

As the millions of other people I am also waiting on my pre-order from Amazon.

    latest email states...

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on February 07, 2012 (Order# 002-7425918-XXXXXXX):

"Nikon D800 36.3 MP CMOS FX-Format Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)"
    Estimated arrival date: April 16, 2012 - May 03, 2012"

I am in WI and apparently there is only one best buy in the state that can even carry a D800 in stores. I have been checking twice a week on the shipments coming in. I also am #4 on a waiting list at a local camera shop that fulfilled ALL the pre orders they took before the original launch date. I am now waiting patiently and keeping my fingers crossed for a shipment from amazon to save myself the 160$ plus in tax.

At this point there I have no hopes. The 16th will come and go with a revised shipping date.

Update: I am in the Amazon delivery window April 13-30, having ordered Feb 7. No special surprises have arrived yet, and we are now in the window. Perhaps next week with the rumors of stock hitting other national retailers Amazon will receive and release a few thousand. We can only hope!

Now even the "reputable & dependable" local Nikon dealers like "Service Photo" in Maryland are playing the B&H, Adorama silent treatment game.

They were supposed to update pre-order customers after the Nikon new year opening (April 5th), as of April 13th not a single email. Not even a simple: We have and appreciate your non refundable deposit for Nikon D800, but Nikon has not updated us on shipment that was supposed to arrive on April 9th.!!!!

So much for supporting local businesses.

    Welcome Falcon1:

Do you think your grivance is heard by Nikon, by voiceing it on this forum?

Some online retailer brand ambasodors do visit such forums, but no one from Nikon.

Kudos to Helen Osner from Adorama who visits here, but the likes of Henry posner from B&H only visit high traffic forums like Fred Miranda, and DPreview. (even though B&H is a sponsor of this site)

I am covering a very high voltage lacrosse game today, and have another - last one of the season on 17th; I would have liked to shoot them with the D800 :-(
