My order for a D4 was due to be delivered today by Amazon but they sent a message last night saying they didn't know when it would be delivered and to just hang in there and orders would be processed as they get them in. I think it would be interesting to see the production output levels and current demand on these bodies. Perhaps depressing? for those of us waiting?
D800 orders from Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc...

Estimates from those in the know are saying Nikon can only produce around 5000 D4 bodies, and 30,000 D800 bodies (some of which must be D800E bodies) in a month. I highly suspect that pre-orders alone (world wide) outstrip those abilities by several months.

I suggest if anyone wants a D800 go to Best Buy have them order it for you. You do have to pay upfront but you will get one. I got mine today after walking in last weekend and they got me one today. This camera was directly shipped from Nikon wasnt from Best Buy's Warehouse. So id suggest trying them!

So id suggest trying them!I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with various Best Buys after their website indicated sporadically that the D800 was available "in store only." According to the local BBs, they have no D800s and the store computers are not even allowing access for the product as if they didn't carry it. I tried to place an order and they couldn't do that either. I know some people have had luck with BB but as near as I can tell the local BBs received 2 cameras per store on the release date and haven't seen any since.
It is very frustrating to have pre-ordered from a major retailer and then find that people keep getting cameras from BB.

new email sent to me.. 02 April 2012.
Thank you for contacting Adorama.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
The first shipment we received on 03/2012 was not entirely for us. Nikon shipped the item with an order number on each of the item. Therefore, we shipped the item to the designated customers per Nikon's request.
Once we received our first shipment for the regular customer, orders will be fulfilled in the order we received them, on a first come first serve basis.
Please bear with us as we are the mercy of the manufacturer.
If you have any further questions, or require additional assistance, feel free to contact us. You may reply to this e-mail or call our toll-free phone number: (800)223-2500.
..........:(
BTW I ordered on 14 February...

Today April 2, 2012 might be my lucky day and I'll get a e-mail from B&H telling me my D800 shipped.
I dream a lot I guess. Pre-ordered March 4th so maybe by the end of AprilPosted 1 year ago # -
I ordered Feb 16 and my order is still pending with No delievery date promised or hinted at. If the "back room" talk is any indication about what is happening, then we small fries will be last on the list. However I wouldn't cancel orderes and reorder later if it is true that the price is going to be increased to all new orders. This is the same marketing trait played by Apple. Hold supplies and create a larger demand, then go up in price and increase supply and everybody appears happier. Also remember the large BOX mail order companies have their favorite shopper list. So if you are not a regular customer then " you just have to wait" until they have saturated their favorite customers. Keep your back to the wall, you never know who has it out for you next!

I ordered on Feb 7 from B&H around 2:00PM Central Time. I called today - they said it would be "a few more weeks".

As part of an enquiry, I asked B&H what my place in line was. Here is the reply:
Your place in line information is held as internal and confidential and as such is not available to customer service agents to disclose.
So the person you speak to does not know the answer.
I still love B&H.

Hello,
I pre-order @ Jessops February 7th in the morning, still waiting. They told me in an email they receive the D800 on March 26th but no confirmation email since then...and all of you guys?

Non NPS people who ordered from Adorama, one full day after I ordered mine from B&H on Feb/7 are already receiving their D800 ordered on Feb/8 from Adorama.
Good thing I am clean shaven, else I would be pulling my hair out.

I guess Adorama must not have enough to send out West. I ordered early on the 7th and no indication that mine is coming.

FWIW, yesterday I went to a local privately owned camera store to test a Nikon 16-35mm f/4 and was told that Nikon was starting up shipments again to the USA. So maybe some of you might be getting your cameras soon.

On another forum a few B&H customers are "reportedly" given option by their forum-known customer service agent Henry to jump ship from the E version to D800, and in the process being put in front of the line.

I don't think they use a line. The employees get drunk after work and put all the pre-orders into a bucket and draw out names until they run out of D800's.

I'm already missing using a D4 for 2 shoots this weekend, but I'm hoping the D700 will do fine...(

I asked if the switch changed my position in line and was told: "actually, the change would not influence your place on our waiting list".
If other switchers got D800s quickly, I'm hoping it means I'm high on the list for the D800E.

I ordered at 10:00 on Feb 7. In recent emails to B&H they said I was near the front of the line and the next shipment would be the latter part of May.

I was pretty floored when I got home this evening and there it was. Charged the battery and made some quick images with a AF-S 24 f/1.4g just to be sure it works.Posted 1 year ago # -
I don't think the small fries are necessarily last on "the" list or on Nikon's distribution list, TomT. I ordered my D800 from the local Nikon dealer, who's a pretty small shop, and I got my D800 10 days ago. I figured the price would be the same locally as on-line, and I did not want to be one of the thousands who would pre-order from Amazon or one of the big-box retailers. It seems I guessed right.

I am curious if someone who has her D4 is welcome on this thread. Of course, now I am waiting for a D400 announcement. Come on NIKON, let's go.
Actually, the idea of having an order in for a D800, or whatever body one has decided on, is a positive experience. We all love anticipation. Our imagination as to the award winning photos we will take is unbounded. We see ourselves as receiving a call from the President because of the great photo we shot.
But, there is a difference between anticipation and expectation. We can be excited, look forward to the arrival of the camera, and imagine all the above stuff, but when we move over to expecting the package to arrive, well this can lead to disappointment. I struggle with the fight between wanting to believe a package will be arriving and the understanding that it is not a reality. But when I am able to accept the basic fact that there are 100 cameras for 1000 customers, and that I may be about 850th on the list, it allows me some peace in the more real expectation of a camera in May or June in this particular case.
I went through this with the D4 as the initial date was March 15 and I was certain I was going to see a shipping notice, then on the next release date, still no email, but a coupe days later, yes, the shipping was a reality. Of course once I receive something, on to the next item.
Remember one important fact. If you are even thinking about the purchase of a D800, you are a very gifted individual. Nt only do you have a discriminating personal taste, excellent judgment in cameras, but also someone gave you the money to proceed, hopefully. So, be grateful for all the gifts.
And, I buy a lottery ticket occasionally, and I am certain I will win with each purchase. Mmmmm
