Yesterday, May 21, I saw a post on NR Facebook that stated the Nikon USA website store had D4s and D800s in stock. I promptly logged onto the Nikon store and placed my order for the D800. Today, May 22, I received confirmation of shipping with a tracking number and the camera serial number (Wataru, for your info the serial number is 3010XXX, so I am not sure that helps as we have seen higher serial numbers previously). I should have the camera tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.
I have been waiting to get this camera since ordering in February from B&H, since March from Amazon, and at various other times from local dealers and Ritz camera. As soon as I have camera in hand I will be cancelling all those other orders. Hopefully someone will move up the ladder.
For those of you still waiting, keep looking. The Nikon USA store briefly had the D800 in stock this morning (I posted that info on NR Facebook as well as here) but they don't last so check frequently. I just missed an opportunity at BestBuy last week by about 20 minutes. The cameras are trickling in but it will be some time before the backlog is eliminated. As for B&H, at last report they were still working on day one or two (Feb 6/7) preorders and they are planning on closing for another religious time out soon. Amazon appears to be working on March 8 preorders. Adorama appears to be bringing up the rear of the big three Internet retailers.
I have not been overly obsessive about finding a camera but I have been keeping my eyes open and watching NRF and NR's Facebook page regularly. The best tool for tracking what is going on is NRF and NR Facebook. Thanks to the posters on both sites. I have tried to contribute where appropriate. For those still looking for a D4 or D800 keep your eyes and ears open. It is worth spending a bit of extra time. You never know when you might get lucky.
