My order still says April 30 :(
I didn't order until the morning of the 7th though.
BB here already got 2 D800 in from pre-orders. Mine should be here the 30th they say.
SEVEN!

I pre-ordered at Adorama last week after long deliberation as to whether to take the dive. I checked with them yesterday whether they actually received any D800 at this point and they told me they have not received any shipments yet. Since some ppl mention other pre-order sites are listing a wait queue of over 150, and considering I plan to use the camera to shoot my yet to be born daughter at the end of April, I called BB. Out of the whole SF bay area, only 2 stores has received shipment totaling 6. I immediately took my car and drove over and luckily picked the last 1 up. I just check today and the only BB in the area that has it is 1.5 hrs away.
First time posting, but long time follower the site.
I pre-ordered mine of the morning of Feb. 7, so today I contacted Amazon.com about what is going on with my preorder hearing that many people have received shipping confirmations last night. Here is what they wrote:
"I've checked your order #XXXXXXX , and see that it will be delivered between April 16, 2012 - May 2, 2012.
As per the availability note on our website this item is in high demand and people who placed order with one day shipping and two day shipping might have received the shipping confirmation email.
I can assure you that, we are using every tool at our disposal to get this item for you, and all we can do is "press" the supplier in hopes that we can get this item for you in a timeline as close to our estimate as possible.
The shipping method for your order is Standard Shipping. With this shipping option, we fulfill your order in a more cost-efficient way. While it might take some extra time to pack and ship your order, you'll still receive it within the estimated delivery time frame.
I want to make sure your order gets to you faster. To help make up for the delay, I've upgraded the shipping method to one-day shipping at no extra charge.
Rest assured that you will receive your item on time."
The the part about the shipping method might have an issue on who gets it first and whatnot. The nice thing was they upgraded shipping to next-day for free.
Right now, I'm still looking around at local BestBuys in my area hoping to snag one if I can. It's nice that Amazon doesn't charge until the item is actually shipped.
The d800 has been shipped by Amazon. Will receive it on Monday..

Yeah, and then B&H is closed from April 6-15 for passover after they get whatever from Nikon. I am just going to try and forget about a camera delivery until after the 15th. It isn't going to happen before then. I ordered on the 20th of Feb., which seems like 5000 people ahead of me.
Lucky me! Right after posting above...I checked into the local BestBuy and got one on opening day. Now I just need to work hard and get the lenses this baby deserves. My cheapo 70-300 and 28-105 macro are usable but having rented the good stuff, you need better to see the full potential. My best so far is almost as good as the D700 with the rented glass. Who wants to trade a D700 for a 70-200 vr2? :)
I received e-mail from B&H this afternoon. Although I ordered within two hours of the official launch I have now
been informed that they will not have cameras until mid-May. I guess I missed the first release.
The exact message was " I am very sorry to disappoint you, unfortunately Nikon informs us that they will be
not be sending more of these cameras until some point in mid-May. I am unsure of the reason for the long
delay but it seems that Nikon was unable to meet the large demand for this camera"
I am going to keep my order in place but try seek some other sources that can deliver sooner.
Prior to March 23rd B&H sent 3 emails stating that they did not know how many D800's they would received from Nikon. Now since the 23rd they acknowledge they received D800's but will not reveal how many; thus it is not possible to assess the rate at which orders are being filled. Why is this information being kept secret? Is it to avoid deterring future orders? Also why doesn't Nikon publicize the general rate at which it is manufacturing the D800. Today, the customer service rep from B&H said the next delivery of D800's they expect is in LATE MAY.
dhanichak / PhotoOp:
Did B&H send the email on their own, or was it in response to your inquiry?
It was the result of my inquiry. I responded to their standard email communication that stated they were not
aware of when they will have cameras . They responded with the above a couple days later.
The latest email from B&H today:
Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:
Thank you for your pre-order of the exciting new Nikon
D800
digital SLR camera.
We know you're excited about this camera and we're as enthusiastic to get it to you as you are to receive it.
At this moment we do not know how many cameras we'll receive from Nikon USA nor do we know the exact date we'll receive each shipment from them. As this situation evolves we will update you with whatever information we're able to share.
Your patience and patronage are both greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sincerely,
B&H Photo-Video, and Pro-Audio
todays email for Calumet UK
Dear Customer
Thank you for your order of the new Nikon D800.
The current levels of demand for this ground-breaking new camera have surpassed what Nikon had been expecting. This unfortunately has left us short on supply, but rest assured we are allocating stock to customer orders as soon as it arrives from Nikon UK.
Over the weekend Nikon UK announced a price increase on the D4, D800 and D800E. The internet is full of rumours relating to this but we wanted to confirm that your order will be delivered at the original price and we will not be passing the price increase on to you.
We pride ourselves on our customer service and customer relationships and we hope you find this a positive gesture.
We will ensure that we despatch your camera to you as soon as possible and thank you for purchasing your new Nikon camera from Calumet photographic.
If you have any concerns or require any further information please feel free to contact me directly.
Thanks for NRAdmin tip on BestBuy. I called around my area and found a BestBuy with 5 D800s. Placed a 2 hour hold on one and am now a proud owner. Never would've thought the D800 would be sold there. By the time I arrived to pick up my camera, all the others were reserved as well. The staff were so clueless about photography they thought the D800 was on sale..LOL Anyway, many thanks, I cancelled by Pre-order with B&H, hopefully that moves somebody up one....
Peace, Terry
Glad I ordered my D800 from a big name camera store on the day of the announcement:
"At this time we have the item on order. However, this is a brand new model and we have yet to receive our first shipment.
Currently, there is no official ETA from the manufacturer. They determine when we get our first batch and how many we receive per batch. Orders are fulfilled in the order we received them, on a first come first serve basis. We cannot share line placement nor can we estimate what batch your order may be fulfilled in. Please bear with us as we are the mercy of the manufacturer.
We appreciate your patience and loyalty.". Adorama, 26 Mar 2012
I picked mine up on satuday morning. I called this store friday night and they still had a couple in their warehouse. Go to nikons webpage and search for authorized d800 dealers and give them call.
still waiting for my amazon delivery. they told me id get it mid april to june 6th. now they dont even give me a date. maybe i should expect it in august ??? meh...
Has anyone gotten one from Adorama besides NPS members? I made the fatal error of waiting until Feb 7th at 10pm to preorder. Best Buy is giving me the runaround constantly. I was told last week that if I came into the store they could order me one, but when I arrived that turned out not to be the case. Meanwhile, several BB preorders were arriving that day. One store out of the 15 in my area even kept one to use as a display model, which seems pretty pointless to me.
Edit: Just found on Adorama's twitter that they ONLY shipped the NPS orders because that is all they received. Here's hoping they are high on the list to get stock from Nikon soon. Was this the same situation with B&H?
D800 cameras ordered directly from Nikon by NPS members were either drop-shipped from Nikon USA to those individual customers or delivered to our Distribution Center as a specific allocation for named NPS members.
This is B&H response to my email:

Your place in line information is held as internal and confidential and as such is not available to customer service agents to disclose. I am sure you could appreciate the sensitivity of this information and it would not be prudent for this to be in the public domain.
We have not been given a delivery date of the D4 from Nikon as well.
Your patience and patronage are both greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
Ordered Friday (March 23rd, 2012) and picked from my local Best Buy yesterday (28th).
Only thing I can figure is someone at Best Buy saw this coming and got a HUGE order in before anyone else. Or perhaps Nikon realized that the supply chain of a big box store like BB had better means than the B&H and Adoramas. Amazon seems to have started to trickle out some units as well.
I know the guy at the local camera shop and they have just barely started getting their NPS D4 orders end of last week. They say D800 is weeks if not months off for them.
Later,
Jeff
I had a D4 on order with BH but cancelled that in favor of the D800. Walked into my local Talls Camera store in Bellevue WA last Friday March 23 and they had 12 that had just came in for pre orders. I put my name on the next shipment pre order list and paid in full and got mine on Tuesday 27th. Bit of luck on that one.
Don't hesitate to check local dealers in your area as Nikon tries to distribute to all their retailers. BH backorder when I talked with them was 1100 or so.
By the way, the resolution is awesome as is the dynamic range and Active D lighting.
Yes, I got mine on Tuesday the 27th from Talls Camera.
I've been inquiring about my D800 order and was first told:
"Please note that there is no problem with your order and you will receive it as per the Estimated delivery date of Mar 26, 2012 - Mar 30, 2012."
I checked back again tonight since it's the 29th and I have not been notified of it shipping, and now they are telling me April 23rd to May 29th, and I'm welcome to cancel the order. What a huge disappointment and I ordered February 6th at about 10 pm PST. Oh well, I might not cancel the order, but I will do my best not to buy anything else from them. What's the point of having great customer service when they are feeding me a bunch of crap.
