Hey guys IM getting ready to buy Cards for my new Nikon D800 ..
I got a question what would you recommend 2 16 GB or 1 32 GB for a Card?
I usually shoot Raw and now I will be shooting a lot of Video as well ...
I just wonder what is your preference thank you/
Generally speaking more smaller cards is better than one big card. Generally speaking the 8GB and 16GB cards are cheaper per GB than the 32GB cards.

Doesn't seem to be the case with B&H, but let me add to OP's question, what would make more sense:
a faster 16 gb CF (sandisk extreme pro 90mb R/W speed) @ $100
OR
a slightly slower 32 gb CF (sandisk 60mb R/W speed) @ $120
when you have either :
a 16 gb SDHC (sandisk extreme pro 95mb R/W speed) @ $70
OR
a 32gb SDHC (sandisk extreme pro 95mb R/W speed) @ $108
primary slot will be SDHC with CF reserved for Video, RAW, or overflow.
shooting habit: a few burst's of 3 jpeg fine shots, and rarely 3 shot bursts of RAW when indoors. No video, but good to have that eventuality covered. Thoughts?
I use a 64GB SanDisk Extreme pro card in slot A and send my RAW and video files to it, and a 32GB San Disk Extreme card in slot B that takes my jpeg files. Seems to work fine for me, as I never experience buffer issues.
Dont put all of your eggs in the same basket "cough cough"... If it were me..
2 16gig CFs(sandisk xtreme of course)
and 2 16gig SDs (sandisk extreme too... sd while not as fast or durable as CF is a hella lot more reliable than Cf, I've never had one corrupt or quit on me whereas CF I've had from time to time...)
Seeing how my D7000 chews through a 16gig xtreme sd, 2 32gig cards may be better...
i went for a Lexar 64GB Professional 400x SDXC card ($115) and a Lexar 64GB Professional 400x CompactFlash card ($200). That gives me more than enough storage space (i shoot up to 2,000 shots on some events) and if needed i can use the sd/cf combination for backup purpose (so that if either the SD or the CF card break i still get all the pictures).
400x is 60MB/s ... (and both Lexar & Sandisk are two of those cards that actually deliver on the speed they write on the label)
14bit NEF(RAW) lossless compressed is ~41.3 MB (as per D800 manual) ...
The camera has a buffersize large enough to hold about 15 RAW pictures ...
The camera can shoot 4 fps
The on-camera-buffer alone is big enough to handle any of my rapid shooting needs. 4 seconds of continuous burst is more than enough for me. So then it's only down to how long the camera needs to clear that buffer and write it to the cards .. i feel comfortable that the 60MB/s will do just fine and that the 95MB/s won't give me much of an advantage. It's one of those things i probably only ever run into once a year (or every two) and not worth the higher price .... of course that's just me, depending on what/how you shoot you might have different requirements. Do your own estimates/guesses with the specs mentioned above.
Good cards go bad so rarely that to me it doesn't make a difference. With the recovery software you can get from Sandisk you can almost always recover all but a couple of the files.
The most thing I hear of is when people accidentally drop or loose their cards. You can look at it as either more cards, more chance to drop one or less of a chance to loose everything.
I don't think of it either way. I use smaller really fast cards (as they are expensive and I rarely need a ton of shots) and I use large slower cards for events etc.

I agree. When you buy top notch cards the money goes in providing high quality architecture and weather/temperature/shock proofing. Also at Tao said, they normally come with a free download code for recovery software (thus far I've never needed it). Another big consideration for me at least is the fact that high end cards are normally guaranteed for life, when I've just splashed a not inconsiderable sum of money on one, I like to know that should it ever go twonk on me, I'll get it replaced without a fight.
In order to have the most flexible card combination I opted for cards of the same size. Two SanDisk extreme 16 Gb cards (1 CF & 1 SD) and a portable backup device is my configuration for D800.
I can easily set the second card to backup if I desire and not worry about size compatibility.
Im using a 32 GB Sandisk SDHC in the SD Slot and a 32 GB Sandisk CF in the CF slot. I originally tried a 16 GB Patriot CF card, but it didn't work.
In my case, it is much easier to use the SD card as the primary card. It slips right into my computer. As soon as I download, I reformat both the cards using the camera two-button reformat.
Has anyone used the EyeFi cards with the D800 yet? I curious of the transfer times.

TTJ, I have used a 4gb Eye-fi card to transfer to my tablet. I have this camera set up to send jpgs to the Eye-fi card while the CF takes raw. I don't take a lot of photos at once so 4 gb is fine with me. Jpg quality is set to normal. Don't expect a speed demon transfer using direct mode. I use direct mode so I can see photos on a larger screen soon, but not instantaneously.
