So my dad's currently on vacation in Vietnam (among other places on his cruise that I'm entirely jealous over, but I digress) and he's using his BlackRapid RS-7 strap with his D90. I haven't gotten the full story yet but apparently his camera fell out of it's lanyard hook. The mirrors ticks and the shutter looks bent and obviously it isn't working anymore. Anyone else had this happen before/know if it can be fixed through Nikon/an authorized dealer, or his he pretty much screwed and will he have to get a new camera.

That sucks, SBTT. My neighbor's D80 had the shutter go out (not exactly the same problem, but the whole shutter needed to be replaced) and I think the quote was in the $300 range. Good luck.

Replacing a shutter box probably costs somewhere around $200-$300.
Probably still worth the costs for a D90.Posted 1 year ago # -

I'm pretty sure he does, at least... I hope he does. Still haven't gotten in touch with him since he first sent me a FB message about it. I don't know where he is today, but he should be back in the States on Wednesday or Thursday (which is also the day I go home!) and I'll see him on Saturday so hopefully I can get a better understanding of what happened then.

When you get the full story, please post it here.Yes, as a BlackRapid user myself, I'd certainly be interested to know what happened. My guess is a "financial" write off. Look on the bright side, now he's got an excellent excuse to go and buy a new camera! (Sorry, scrub that, just my devious mind thinking out loud :-)

lol no I know he's been jealous of me since I got my D7000 when it came out... he has another D90 with him on the trip (his wife's/my step-mom's) so hopefully he can take some pix of the damage and send me them. But I wouldn't be surprised if he did get a D7000. I don't see him spending $3000 for the D800 though (I would, of course...).
