Might be switching to the 7D when it comes out because I need the video and unfortunately Nikon just hasn't gotten there with their video yet. Lower resolution, awful codec (which leads to crushed blacks and off-skin tones), etc. It makes me sad, because I thoroughly prefer shooting Nikon, but once they catch up, I'm sure I'll be back.

Anyway, the point of this thread, the 7D is rumored to be a non-full frame with the EF/EF-S mount. I wondered if anyone knew of an adapter where I could use my DX lenses on the Canon. Any help is appreciated.

Yes there is an F-mount to canon but you'd lose autofocus, VR, and metering too if I remember correctly Oh and you wont be able to adjust aperture on newer lenses. If your going to switch I'm afraid it's going to cost you $$$.
Are you in the media biz or an independent film maker? How are you planning to use the camera? My experience with pro video guys is that they love using Nikon glass on their 5DmkII cameras. But the pro photog's who use DSLR video at events such as weddings are eager for the D300S or are happy with the 5DmkII.

It's still not a for sure thing that the canon 7D will be APS-C or APS-H. Or surprise, a full frame!
Have you looked at using the Panasonic GH-1? The guys I know who've used it really enjoy it. Here's some video shot with the 5DmkII vs GH-1 vs RED ONE ! It's not a completely fair fight but the GH-1 does very well I think.

I'm a 3rd year MFA in photo/video art so I'll be using the video in more of a filmmaker way then in a commercial fashion. I looked at the GH1 but I'm not a fan of the micro 4/3rds system, especially since it's just getting started. Although it is hot that the GH1 shots 60p.

I've already sold my D300, just sitting on my 18-200 now and haven't been offered a decent price for it yet. I've always been Nikon, and hate the 5dMk2's AF system (which I don't use with video, but when I do shoot the occasional photo gig, I do use AF), but it's looking like I'm gonna make the switch. Normally I'd wait for a D700x with video, but I'm in a place right now where I need to shoot my thesis show, both the video and the photo pieces, so I can't wait.

I guess I just need to sell this 18-200, but I also want to see some actual d300s video outside the commercials and the random tradeshow playing around.

By when do you need the new camera? The 7D isn't even a for sure thing yet. canon might just release a 60D with video and hold the 7D announcement with the 1DmkIV in Feb2010. The D300S is on it's way to dealers now. I don't recommend you switch to canon if your planning to switch back later to Nikon when the D700(x) turns out to be freaking awesome :^)

But if your on a tight deadline and you've got the money to burn, then nothing you read on this forum is going to stop you. :( Except that maybe the D700 with video is freaking awesome! So getting back to your original question about the adapter, it's not going to work with your 18-200 anyway so... your better off buying all canon gear if your getting a canon camera.

Hope I've helped you in some way John, good luck. Hey share some of your videos :)

Hmm.. I am not sure the Canon is going to give you better results. isn't all cinema movies shot in the mode that Nikon gives you? If you shoot in canon don't you have to convert it to the nikon mode to "show"? ie 720p 24fps? isnt the canon version just another "MP race" marketing hype?

I guess it's a mute point since it looks like the 7D will in fact "only" be APS-C but will cost over $2000US and maybe even the same as a 5DmkII?! Wow what's up with that?

If the 7D price range is true than the video on the D300S is looking real good to me.

spastikmonkii - if You are really on a tight schedule, and can't wait for d300s than get the panasonic, as it's gonna cost You less and from this what I'e read it has great video capabilities
