I've been using the beta for a while now. It's a massive improvement over the 3.6 in my opinion.

As a software developer who likes getting paid for his work, I get the need to be paid, but I have to respectfully disagree. Personally, I think its bad form to not include some form of grace period when you know you have a new product coming out. Whether it be photography software, map making software, or whatever. The grace period doesnt have to be too long, but 30 or 60 days is honestly a standard in the industry.

Well, I bow to your professional position on this but tell me - where do you stop? The guy who buys it a day before the grace period is going to be peeved in your scenario :-)

Well, I agree that you cant please everyone all the time. :) No argument. You have to put a line somewhere. But adobe has its line as "never". And while something like Lightroom is cheap, for something like photoshop isn't, its kindof a less than friendly business practice. Its not as if this is a product by product decision. Adobe has its license rules pretty much standard for all its software.

Now that said, I purchased my license upgrade the other day, and I had mine for 6 or 7 months before that. Obviously I got a lot of use out of it. So no complaints. A guy that had it for one day, especially when the company knows when its releasing its production version? Not so much. Since their licensing software is server based, they should know when someone purchased a license.

Oh yeah, my point was off the back of LR4 being so cheap to upgrade. Now if I had just bought CS5, I would be properly pissed.

Has anybody here imported their LR2 catalog into LR4 yet? My LR4 is on order (I ordered the disc instead of download) and will be looking at importing LR2 catalog into it. I know the LR4 Beta could not or did not import LR2.

Beta 4 would not import from 2 or 3.

According to the "read me" file, it will import from 2 and/or 3

you can down load and use, the 30 day free trail, until your produce code arrives in the post

Got my copy running last night and all seems good. Really like the Develop panel changes so far, it seems more intuitive.

I just downloaded the full version 4 and as soon as I opened it, it gave the option of importing library from Lightroom 3. Worked no problem.

When the public Beta became available, everyone paying attention should have known that a new version was coming soon. I realize everyone is not paying attention to what's going on in the software world, so they shouldn't be penalized for having purchased LR3 after the Beta was released. I would suggest that Adobe, and other companies that "announce" upgrades via release of Beta versions, allow free, or extremely inexpensive, upgrades to the new version if the current version is purchased during the Beta program.

I purchase a number of specialty software programs that always allow free upgrades if an upgrade is released in the following year. (But of course, some of that software costs $5,000+, so I would expect nothing less.)

I think that is very fair. But then you get the guy who bought the previous version one hour before the beta for the next version was announced..... :-)

I have a question: I have only bought LR(3) as a full download in the past and am currently running the trial version of LR4. Can anybody tell me how the 'upgrade' purchase as a download works? How do Adobe know I actually have LR to upgrade and do I use the old key or do they give me a new one? I am confussed.

Have you purchased upgrade to LR4, if so, how long did it take to Lightroom upgrade download appear on LWS?
I know they state that it may take up to 24hours, but that seems odd, I payed mine 6hours ago and still not there?

Now it came to LWS, it took 7 hours.

When you purchase it you, chose the upgrade version. It will then check your system for the old one with the old license, but you get a new upgrade only license.

So you use both an upgrade license and the old license for the upgrade license to work.

This happens when you chose what license to purchase. Its all in the licensing software, this even works off of the "trial".

OK mirtos, thanks for taking the time to answer. That is good as it means that I don't buy an upgrade then find it will not install and so have to try to get the money credited towards a full copy.

I tried to call them in the U.S. and U.K. and both times they said the demand for LR4 is so huge that all the phones were busy.

I think they are reaping the benefit of an excellent product priced right. My copy is now in the post and meantime I am using the free trial. I'm loving the new 2012 process, improved noise reduction and sharpening.

Huge Bug in Lightroom 4. You can't use the "edit in" external editor function. Completely doesn't work. Adobe rep on photoshop forum says they are invesigating the issue. I have to use LR3 until this is fixed. This really sucks. Apparently, it worked fine in the Beta version, but it's dead in the full release.

I hear it will only work if you also have Photoshop installed on the same computer, as it somehow draws on the shared function and can open the external editor. However, those of us who do not use photoshop (I do not) cannot use the external editor at all.

Read all the reports about it here. Apparently you can get around it by downloading the CS5 trial version. I don't want to do that, so hopefully the issue is fixed quickly.

I agree. Adobe should (like most other companies do) have some sort of time allowed for a free upgrade. I wouldnt expect it to be a long time, maybe a month or 2. (In otherwords, if you purchased within 30 or 60 days, the license should be free).

But, then again, Adobe isn't exactly known for great customer service. Great products, yes. Customer service? no.

Actually Adobe does offer a free updgrade for people who purchased LR3 from February 6, 2012. I was finally able to get them to send me an upgrade disc (at least they say it's on it's way to me).

Thats good to hear. Still, they should just give you the license over email, so you could download the upgrade and put it in. but its something.

I know people have said you can setup auto lens corrections...I want this to happen for all my pictures. How do I go about doing this? Do I need to setup a new profile or what?
