Can't believe the LONG wait for the D400. What in the world is Nikon R&D and marketing thinking????

That they want to sell any remaining D300s's lying around, and as many old D7000s as they can first? People said the same thing before the D800 came out, and despite all the crying and moaning they either, waited and bought one or moaned that the camera wasn't what they wanted anyway.

I think many people here waiting for the D400 will be disappointed in the same way. Why? Because it will have the same 24MP sensor as the D3200 or D5200, wont have the high ISO performance from their pipe dreams. What people seem to want is for Nikon to magically pull out of a DX sensor the performance of the full frame D600 (ain't going to happen). Nikon won't do that, they want to sell you a full frame camera and lenses.

Nothing magic about what I want.. give me the crop mode D800 sensor ie. 16Mp. the d300 had the same focus system of the D3. Similarly put that D4/D800 system in the D400. Not too much to ask is it ?.. I hope they realize that the photographers buying the D400 wont be chasing MP but DR, Colour, ISO and FPS.

Just had a cool idea ... I wonder if they would release a D400E :-) .. that would sure make my day! heck it would make my year !

From the D800 review on dpreview.. "The ISO span is slightly wider than that of its predecessor the D700, at 100-6400, expandable up to ISO 25,600 (equivalent)." Give me that in the D400

All the rumours point to a 24MP sensor, so I think you'll be disappointed. ;-)

Unfortunately I can't deny seeing the same thing happening.
Luckily I'm holding out for the D7000 successor so the D7000 will get that final drop in price it needs for me to justify getting it besides my D5100 or get two D7000's and sell the D5100. (Prime Lenses are great but having two camera's with two different primes is even better.)

So what you want is a D800 Body with an improved D7000 sensor?
I just don't see Nikon doing that, As they'll risk seeing it fail to sell well enough.

Hope rises .. you see pentax now has a "16 MP flagship" APS-C camera with AA removed just like a D800E but DX .. its called Pentax K-5 IIs .. ..

And we all know how much market share Pentax has stolen from Nikon and Canon since the K-5II came out. :-p All the tests from that (Sony) sensor shows the same performance as the original K5, which was on par with the D7000. Hardly a "flagship" worthy sensor.

Actually the pentax has a good following and it is well known to be the best dx sensor implementation but that's beside the point. What I mean is that since there is a AA less dx already, then there is a better chance that there could be a AA less d400 as well. Also if their flagship is 16 mp there's less pressure to go for higher MP.

It all comes down to this; will it be a professional grade body? I would be interested in a D4's quality & speed in a DX format. It could even be a quality 8MP sensor for all I care. 24MB will have speed issues.

I'm sure my wants is a non starter but I'd pay more than a D600 to get it.

very true has any one ever counted the number of pixels on an image ? MPs are irrelevant; it is IQ and functionality that counts

and I going to guess, at Dx prices

In summery it all comes down to price

we want a fusion of the D800 and the D4, for price of a D300s

"we want a fusion of the D800 and the D4, for price of a D300s " thats not too much to ask right? that is basically what happened with the D3/D700/D300 releases.

So why not with the D4/D800/D400...

I should stop now..not feeling well .. I think I am coming down with a bit of a NAS attack..:-)

Well with the rumours of the 7DII starting to pick up pace, Nikon might just get their rear in gear with this. I was really holding out for the D400, but then I found a D3 for a steal. This D400 will have to be really special for me to buy it over (or in addition to- ) my D3

Personally I think they're walking a bit of a tightrope counting on people's brand loyalty to allow them to take forever on this... In my case I could change brands in a heartbeat, as most of my kit was bought second hand and I'll easily recover what I paid (Might actually turn a profit haha)

Brand loyalty does not exist in my world - I use what works for me. If brand A can no longer deliver what I require, I will go look at brand B or C or D...

Also - what does Nikon/Canon or whatever give to the people for loyally buying their product?

In the case of Nikon a very reliable piece of equipment that has a remarkable good second value

In releasing the D4,and D800 Nikon have provided, those of you who are waiting for a D400, a supply S/H D3s and D700s which seems to tick a lot of boxes

Nikon decided to cancel the D400, since the world ends on the 21st. they knew they wouldn't have time to bring it to market. :-p

Hold onto your panties girls, the D400 will come out when it is ready to go. Considering all the issues withe the D800 and D600, wouldn't you rather they get it right rather than rushing it out the door?

They've had about 5 years to get it right :p. I'm so much hoping for first quarter 2013 and not August 2013 as Thom predicts. I don't want a D7100, I need a solid pro body and am not willing to wait until August! But none of us are or else we wouldn't be coming back to this thread every single day.. and yes, even multiple times a day, right? Right?

If I wanted FX I would have bought a D4. But since this thread is about DX...

They had three years to get the D800 right and they still managed to screwed that up, so what's your point?

Actually the other thread is about the possibility of a 1.2 crop sensor camera. Not really about D400 that's why I created a new thread..
