LOL Darkhost...in the south,we usually say bassakards....while folks north of the Mason-Dixon use the sofisticated bass ackwards ;-).......any way you look at it , a D600 before a D400 applies both ways ;)

I THINK with the MB-D12 grip and Dx crop you can get up to 6 fpsFPS is not my focus at all - it is the High ISO. Most sports I shot with my D300 I set everything for CHL at 2/sec. I can clean ISOs to around 2500 on my D800 (depending on venue) and 3200 if need be but I can't crop too much at that. That is where DX can outshine FX sensors. That extra reach with the same density of pixels adds a bit more detail. If what I get at 2000 iso on my D800 is about what a D4 gets at 6400. Put that in a DX and than I would have to make a decision. :)

We don't know the most important spec for most D400 buyers; can it shoot clean at ISO 3200 or 6400? And we won't know that when it is released. That one spec plus fast fps will determine whether it is suited to sports. Let's hope it is.Tao, great chart! I made a copy to keep.
I find it helpful for budgeting and expected expenditures. The only thing I have not added or it doesn't account for is the Thailand floods or any major events in the past. If you look at the "expected" D400 release, the Thailand floods had a major impact on that as we can see. Basically they have ended up skipping a generation of that line. You have to keep that in mind.

Those specs are probably from this post:

I don't expect the D400 to be announced soon.

I thought they looked familiar. The blogger that posted these either has the same sources and they are slower to send him info, or he copied yours and waited a couple months to post a copy. ;- )

Well even if we don't get a D400 soon, I think the D600 price actually is a good thing. I see a D400 in the $1500 price range and it make sense to me at least.

An update to the D2x would be nice for birders, but I doubt that would happen.

Keeping the FX bodies out of the affordable range for most amateurs. And leaving a nice place for a $1000-$1500 DX body.

With the latest price rumor on the D600 Im salivating for a D400 all the more.

D400, hands down. I need a high end DX not an entry level FX.

I see a D400 in the $1500 price range and it make sense to me at least. The prices for this line has always hovered around $1,800-$2,000. The issue in the past has been the huge jump from the D90/D7000 to the D300 which was almost $1,000. The D7000 closed that gap a bit but not much. A D600 around $1,500 would sit in the gap well.
As for the FPS the D600 rumored specs of 4 fps is not very promising. FPS has to do with how fast and how much data can be moved off the buffer. 24mp is 24mp - DX/FX doesn't matter as it is the same amount of data. I'm guessing 5-6 with the BP adding 1-2. That would be the same as the D300.

The problem with that theory is that the D600 is far more likely to sit in the price range of $1999-2199. That would leave plenty of room for a D400 at $1599 or $1699.
You might want to check the latest specs for the D600, 5.5FPS. ;)

The D600 is a "cute" little camera Nikon, but I'm still waiting patiently waiting for my D400! ;-)

Right, D600 nonsense out of the way, let the D400 rumours and leaked images roll in!

O.K. the D600 looks really nice. My budget says I can't up grade now but if it did I might just jump at the D600. As luck would have it I need to wait but if the D400 is over $1500 it's going to have to be fabulous not to lose sales to the D600....Oh the Drama continues...

Every time I see another post on this thread I am thinking someone knows something, but alas..... I would pay $2000 for a D400 with the bells and whistles, ISO 12,800, 8-9 FPS before buying a D600. Although if one looks at the video i posted, the D600 is some kind of good camera.

This why, I think we are unlikely to see one soon
if /when we do get a "pro" dx it might be mirrorless and very different from anything we have a the moment

Perhaps, like how the D600 is the worst kept secret of the industry, the D400 is the best.
Posted 8 months ago # -
looks like we are still waiting for two three DX level cameras to fill and match the price gap...
I wish for following:
D400 at ~ $1750 - 16MP (same as D4)
D7100 at ~ $1250 - 36MP (same as D800)
D5200 at ~ $900 - 36MP (same as D800 but with articulated screen)Posted 8 months ago #
