I was just looking for the 16-35mm on Amazon and it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Looking at Adorama and B&H, the both list it as backordered with no expected date. Did this lens get discontinued?
Nikon 16-35mm f/4 gone?

Nope - probably selling out due to people buying FX for the first time (D700 price drops, used sales) people heading towards the D800.

It is readily available in the UK

Ok thanks! I was surprised to see it gone from Amazon. I guess the remove stuff when not in stock for long periods.

I just got one to replace my Tokina 12-24, since I'm expecting to go full frame in the next year! I caught a used one coming up on lensrentals though - I don't usually buy new lenses.

I saw recently this lens being bought up everywhere so few days ago got lucky a local camera shop in town had one copy left. I had to pay little more then i would have at B&H but having a D800 with out a Ultra Wide lens for landscape shooting and not knowing how long it would take till i got my hands on one...was worth avoiding at a 100$ premium.

Shewt! I was just about to buy one as well.

I was searching the interwebs for one in the US last night and not having much luck I almost ordered one from the UK (for $1550 converted USD).
I backed out at the last minute and did a few more searches and low-and-behold, Amazon in the US had one come up! Said "1 left" so I quickly ordered now and seem to have purchased the last one they have for the time being.
I got it from this link so keep an eye on it and maybe they'll put another one on there.
Now I'm just hoping this wasn't a used return or something like that. :-/ They better not do that to me! :)http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-16-35mm-4G-VR-Digital/dp/B0037KM0XA

Well, I have mine already and love it. But, if you want one from B & H, just keep searching their website everyday and all of a sudden it will be in stock. You must order immediately as sometimes these last only a few hours. This is how I got my 70-200 f/2.8 VRII, when it was "backordered no arrival date known" as well as the teleconverters. Actually, a lot of the lenses which are popular seem to sell out and one needs to just be persistent and check the websites.
Or, purchase the imported one from B & H. It is in stock at this moment.

My local camera store has it in stock... I am currently debating the 16-35 and the 14-24. Ego wants 14-24. Pocketbook thinks the 16-35.

B&H will let you sign up to be notified when something comes in--or at least they used to?

I have one and love it as well!!! It is a really great lens. At f/4 though, it has a ton of DOF....which makes isolating your subject a little challenging. I know everyone says the VR is not necessary in a wide angle lens, but I've used it to take some hand held pictures that just wouldn't be possible otherwise!!!

B&H will let you sign up to be notified when something comes in--or at least they used to?They still do this, but the problem is the item will show up in stock, the emails go out the next day to folks announcing the item is in stock, but often, by the time a sought after item is announced it is already out of stock. My guess is the shipments may be as small as 25-50 units and if a lot of folks are looking around the world, swoosh.... they are gone.
So, lurk on the website, grab it while you can......

and it is not just your ego, that is right, the 14-24 is oh so clearly better!
you will forget those few hundred extra-bucks in a heartbeat once you use the 14-24...Posted 1 year ago # -

Maybe, but the 16-35mm has VR, it also has a horizontal field of from 52 to 89 degrees, while the 14-24mm lacks VR, and has a horizontal field of 70-95 degrees, far more limited. Unless one absolutely has to have the extra 6 degrees, the 16-35mm is by far the more versatile lens. With VR, it can be held in light conditions the 14-24 will only be wishing it would work.

With that wide of an angle everything is in focus even wide open so you don't necessarily need a fast lens. Plus the 5mm of ranges is very constrictive I think to gain 1 mm wider. As the case with the 14-24 compared to the 16-35. Theoretically the VR would gain 3-4 stops making it hand holdable more than the 14-24 even though it is F2.8. I have heard the 14-24 is an amazing lens, but money is a factor for most hobbyist shooters.

I bagged a refurbished 16-35 from B&H for $970. Happy.

This lens still can't be obtained from Amazon, B&H, Adorama or Abe's of Maine. I just switched over to Nikon (the D700, in particular), and I am none to happy about the availability of Nikon products. There are a ton of lenses that are difficult to procure due to their unavailability and the D700, D7000 and D3s are out of stock as well.
That being said, I love my D700. I have two specs of dust on the focusing screen that are bothering me, however. I have to ignore them...

It is because of all the people switching from Canon that need all new lenses. That and the people moving from DX to FX that already shot Nikon.
In all seriousness though 6-12 months ago there were plenty of all these products. I think the US economy is picking up some and the new product releases has everyone in a buzz to get new stuff.
Also there is one on Amazon through 17th street photography if you really need it now, but the price did go up $200 since my friend ordered his last week.

As for the D7000, Nikon is filling backorders that came about as a result of the floods in Thailand last fall.

I starting to think there is a ship on it's way from Japan that is full of Nikon Products. It seems everywhere, with lenses, bodies, flashes, etc. products are coming back on line around March 25th. Almost every store and site seems to reference a Date around that time for everything to be back in stock.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Makes sense, with Nikon starting inventory just after that (26th). Get the last shipments out to retailers just before they start.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Yep, a local dealer nearby basically has nothing in stock, with the expected date of arrival being end of March/beginning of April.

Are these on the focusing screen or the image sensor? If they show up on the final product, then check your user's manual. There are two ways to clean the image sensor on a D700. Above all, DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH ANYTHING! Touching it in almost all cases will destroy it by adding scratches.
If the dust remains.... NIKON is the only place to go, or a NIKON repair shop.Posted 1 year ago #
