Here is one from last night. Almost a bit too misty for photos but I am trying to get better at nightscapes before I get somewhere exotic and then screw it up!

Strong start everyone.
Scooby and Spray, you are really talking about the JPEG settings employed by your hosting service (Photobucket, etc.) aren't you? I've also noticed my pics look better when opened from the harddrive than when recalling from Flickr. Same monitor in both cases. I suppose it might be possible to save over-bright and over-sharp versions to "pre-compensate" for Flickr-fogging, but that seems very difficult to work out.

Interesting point mcammer, and one that I will check out. At this moment it seems all (my) JPEGS are very noticeably inferior to the raws on my screen offline so if there is some further misinterpretation going on at Photobucket and Flickr, then I need to know about it.
There is only a little straightening on the one above, no sharpening. LR has a 'sharpen for screen' setting in the export dialogue which may help.....hmmm... thanks.
Surreal shot BTW!

Geez... another one.... I love it. The D7000 / 24mm is giving about the same as a 36mm on FX I guess. So, El_Pickerel, I will be teasing you some in a month or so.... I really like the results of wide angle when it does not appear to be wide angle due to distortion, just a nice wide field of view.... natural maybe.
No photo for me today as I posted twice yesterday with the new 85mm f/1.8 and am doing penance today, ha,ha, ha.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Here's another long exposure on water, 20 seconds, converted to B&W. That effect is starting to grow on me.

Shot with the D7000, Sigma 50mm F1.4 @ f/16 ; ISO 100.
I like it too - could easily pass for a frozen surface. Was it overexposed or is that just all the reflection of the clouds producing the white?

Thanks, El_Pickerel. I actually brought up the whites in Lightroom, then enhanced the blacks a touch. If you're really interested in getting that look occasionally, you should look into getting a 10 stop ND filter and experimenting. After I saw your cool picture above I wondered how it would look with the same effect. Just my imagination working overtime.

I really should bring a tripod with me more... I had a 3-stop ND filter and a CPL with me, but no tripod! I need a way to keep a tripod closer at hand... if it's strapped to the back of my pack I'm not likely to stop, drop pack, and set it up in cold weather! Hey, always a good excuse for a return visit right? ;)

Well, an attorney friend said if you cannot convince them with the truth, baffle 'em with b........ This photo follows.... a snapshot of Ferdie, ones of my website authors, riding in my snow covered Porsche Cayenne Turbo back in 2007 when we attended the NAIAS in Detroit. Tongue in check folks!

I love these "back against the wall shots", Bland. And when they turn out like yours, looking just like I bet you saw it. Nice. And to all, some very nice stuff on these pages. I am going to have to get serious here.
Bland, impressive!. It looks like I could step thru the computer into that scene.
Bland, nice lighting composition and sharpness!
Shame you can't hear the choir behind this window - almost as beautiful as the window itself.
@Rx4 - that's a really nice effect with the water.
@Elvishefer - excellent B/W shot.

First of a set from a trip to Lake Tahoe, CA.
18-105 @ 105 mm, f/5.6, 1/1600th.
Edit: for the record, what looks like banding on his jacket is actually the plaid showing through. I think that I should have edited this to blow it into the black, but I didn't, so that's my fault. Msmoto's criticism/lambast page would have helped me out here.

Spring is getting closer and closer!
