Drab, I got to talk to my friend this morning (the guy who's got the V600 and Nikon 9000)... he hasn't had the V600 long enough to do an in-depth comparison to the V500 (which he also owns), but he did confirm that the improvement in Digital Ice is worth the extra price (both are currently in production, I think the V600 is maybe $50 more). The main difference is the infrared technology. Apparently, dust has a different heat signature than film so we theorized that maybe this is how it tells the difference. Only thing is, he says it works on scratches too... only thing I can think of is that infrared and visible light refract at different angles so perhaps comparing the infrared scan with the visible light scan allows digital ice to determine what is a scratch and what is image information. Regardless of HOW it works, the upshot is that it DOES work and is definitely worth the extra few bucks.
It looks like we're veering off topic... I'm a new member so I'm not sure what the deal is if this discussion continues, should we start a new topic or is there some way to move these messages over to a new topic, or do we just continue?
