Could it be this thread is related to our fears regarding the current economy, and the potential for less income for many of us? Credit cards are a modern invention in one sense. There was a day when we purchased something by going to the bank or by saving up cash and then we ordered the item.
If a large company is to allow us to use a credit card to order merchandise, we are saying we are good for it. Thus, for the amount of the item, we have actually reduced our ability to pay by the amount of the item. On the other hand, if we have the ability to pay for a large amount of goods, then the idea of "authorization" on one's credit card is really inconsequential. Having the amount on our card locked in, actually protects us so we do not overextend ourselves. And thus we are able to pay for the amount of our credit limit each month.
