Hey, this is exactly the lens donaldejose wants!
In all seriousness, I'd be interested if the price is right.

About time someone made a VR 24-70 f/2.8! This is a lens I might get. And Tokina announcing a new 11-16 and their first VR lens? And whatever Nikon's doing? Good year for shooting Nikon, methinks. :)

Interestingly enough Canon just unveiled their 24-70 2.8 too. It looks exactly like the old lens.

And 24mm and 28mm IS lenses. That would be a potentially cool combination, one of those and a 70-200 f/2.8. I don't read into Canon reviews nearly as much as Nikon-related stuff (surprising right?) but I wonder what was wrong with their existing 24-70mm f/2.8L to warrant a replacement. It doesn't look quite like the old one... wider zoom and focus rings and the front of the inner barrel looks different. Wonder how many people are going to be pissed with the 82mm filter size (same with the Tamron model)? I don't think it bothers me too much since I'm probably not using filters too often on a midrange zoom lens...

Perhaps I like gold rings better.
Also, the new 24mm and 28mm primes they announced look like the build quality is pretty cheap.
I'm glad Nikon has similar build quality throughout the range generally speaking. But then again, their use of plastic on the 24mm, 35mm and 85mm 1.4 lenses is questionable.
I didn't post about it before, but an 82mm filter thread is freaking massive!

Frustrating: no price, no release date.
As to the plastic on Nikon 1.4 G: annoying maybe, but I wouldn't want my 35mm to be heavier. And I'm getiung good results with it, so I can live with the plastic for now.

With the plastic in those high end lenses, and having the 24mm f/1.4, I feel they are still sturdy enough construction that the plastic outer barrel won't be the point of failure, and whatever the point of failure is will still be after way more abuse than you're likely to ever put the lens through.

VR 24-70 f/2.8 - about damn time! Tamron has always had fairly good 2.8s - this should go over well.

Not sure if that is the case but I just laugh in my head from all the times people said they bought Canon because of the "glass." HA
When you look at release dates of Nikon and Canon glass, it seems about right.Posted 1 year ago # -

Couldn't help but be amused at that... sure hope a thousand-dollar lens can resolve 2 megapixels!

I think the reviews put the IQ of old canon 24-70 behind nikon and sigma. so of course they cant have that !
Chuffed that I managed to get this news/rumour before NR !! :-) even by a few hours! :-)
I have the old 18-70 nikon which had great optic but no VR similarly I had the old 35-70F2.8 (amazing lense) but recently, I lost it !! :-( . I loved that for event photography/portraits. So I will be watching with interest for reviews and info re this new lense for my DX cameras. I find that the DX versons of this lens (17-50) are not long enough for my tastes. 24-70 will be just about perfect. wished it went to 80mm but I guess i can crop.

Just saw on Canonrumors that the 24-70mm f/2.8 VC is up for preorder. Found the Nikon version and I think this is the first time I have preordered anything. Only problem is now I'll have good primes and good zooms covering full frame from wide to telephoto. Have an old Tokina 28-80mm f/2.8 lens but that lens isn't sharp at any aperture and has the most hideous flare / ghosting short of an ancient AI-modified 50-300mm f/4.5 I use sometimes...
