As I mentioned on the "help me with Grey cards thread", I've had my D3s for two years now, and was sure I'd gone into every menu and knew it's features inside and out by now, but I've just discovered the facility to store custom White balance settings! That got me thinking........what else might it do that I haven't noticed from reading the manual? What great feature have you stumbled across that we might not know about, how did you find out about it, and how long had you had your camera for without knowing it did it? I'm expecting this to just be a bit of fun, but who knows you might mention something that makes the rest of us go "IT DOES?"
The best feature you found your camera has purely by accident.

The ability to zoom to 100% or more at a press of a button (multi selector button) on my d700. I didn't find it by accident, but found out from reading a review on d3x.
It is probably one of the best features that not many people realise available on nikon camera since at least 2007. The canon 1Dx is only now bragging about it.
This feature unfortunately, only available on the pro body i.e d700 and above. Can't remember if d300(s) have this, the d7000 definitely missing out.
cheers

Not really my camera, but probably the most useful thing I've found out by accident was that the knobs on my tripod ballhead could be pulled out and moved to a better position. I spent a good year being frustrated by not being able to tighten it if a plate or something got in the way- once I was frustrated enough that I pulled hard on the knob and found out that it could be pulled out and moved to a better position.
I'm sure if I think hard enough, I can find something interesting that I learned about my camera.

Not only it zooms to 100%, it zooms to the very AF focus point that you chose ( to see if your focus is tack sharp )
The D300 also has it.

Youtube search 'custom white balance setting' for a video.
Or read your manual...

The D40 has enough features but not enough for me to find by accident. :D

D7000: changing the focus pattern and mode by pressing the auto focus control button (inside the AF-M focus lever and moving the front and rear dials to change auto focus options. I think this system will be adopted on all new Nikon Bodies.

I'm the kind of person who reads the manual before I get the camera (I know: ridiculous). I can't think of a time I've been surprised to find a feature, but I have been informed on this forum of how some features can be put to use.
Some examples:
Setting the AF so the shutter button doesn't engage it (handy for recomposing).
U1 and U2 modes on D7000 can be used to...I forget. I do remember thinking someone was on to something when they posted a suggestion around here, but apparently it was for a very specialized situation because I can't remember what it was.I also like the calendar view and being able to scroll through just faces in image review on the D90 and D7000 using the front command dial.
I'm still waiting for peggle on my camera.

I don't find hidden features, because I check out every menu option when I setup the camera for the first time. I've used enough high end Nikon bodies that there aren't many features I haven't seen before. Anyway, why read the manual when it is in every camera anyway? If you don't know what something is when you are in the menu press the "?" button the back of the camera and the manual for that item comes up.

Mine's not a feature of my camera, but one I finally learned how to do in Photoshop Elements, which for a zoom lens is a must. Fixing distortion. I can't say how many pictures I've taken at wide angle with my 18-200 VRII lens that had buildings leaning and how stupid I feel to finally discover I can fix them so easily....

+1 Jonny, I do the same, read the electronic manual while the body ships.

C'mon guys, don't ask that question then ridicule people who respond (even if it is kinda funny)!

I'm a new D7000 owner, so just about all the features have been new to me over the last week. But the "Tilt Meter" aka "Viewfinder Virtual Horizon" is a pretty cool feature when I'm trying to get my tripod level.
